Default Which tires to get for a Z06

My choices are between the P2S and the GY SC tires. The P2S tires weigh less and have more tread depth. However, I have not seen one review at Tirerack from any Z06 or any Corvette owner (mostly BMW and Porsche's). There is about a $60 difference between a set, if I count the rebate that is offered.

For my Z06, what would you recommend for everyday (haha) driving; my Z06 is a DD. I was able to get 13,000 miles from the GY's....do you think I can do better with the P2S tires? I have stock tire sizes.

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

I'm in the same situation as Cruncher. How do the Firestone Wide Ovals or Kumho Ecsta MX tires stack up?

I'd like to hear some comments from anyone who has the new Firestone Wide Ovals? Luke, any feedback on these yet? I'm looking at the price for a set for the Z and it comes out to $646 and there is a $88 rebate. That's not bad, about $550 not including shipping. I had the original Firehawk SZ50 (non-EMT) on my C4 and they were very good tires.

I need a set of tires just for the rest of the season to use as Daily Driving and Autocross. Then next season I'll go back to seperate wheels and R-comps.

Red Guts,

The MX is a great tire for the price. I ran a set on my C4 for Daily Driving and Autocross. They work fine as a dual purpose tire. For autocross at the price they can't be beat as far as I can tell. For daily driving I found them to be a little noisey due to the big tread blocks. They're ok in the rain but they are not a rain tire. Good trade-off tire.

A friend has them on his Z and said they have better lateral grip than the F1s but will spin easier in a straight line. He's very happy with them overall when you weigh in performance vs cost. Ultimately the PS2 and SC maybe a better tire but at a much steeper cost.

I used the Firestone Wide Ovals for One Lap. They are a very good tire, I was surprised on how sticky they are in the dry and especially in the wet. They have a tendency to squirm until the tread wears down a little. That is when they start to shine. The wear is amazing as I've already have done two events after One Lap with one more this weekend at Putnam Park. I will be replacing them with another set to use on NASA HPDE.

Thanks for the feedback Rudy!
That's what I'm looking for. Autocross and HPDE on street tires this year anyway. Glad you like them. I think at the price I will give them a try before the rebate goes away.

Thanks for the feedback Rudy. That's exactly what I was looking for, too. Sounds like they're worth a shot.

I was at Putnam Park on the 4th and 5th and ran the Firestone Wide Ovals. Have run them at Roebling Rd and Nashville Superspeedway. At Putnam Park, I was almost down to the wear bars and they performed like racing tires. Soft compound and very predictable. I bought another set from Tirerack just last month. Cant go wrong, wet or dry.
