I'm in desperate need to buy and install tires before the beginning of March (To pass vehicle inspections) and I need some good advice. I need a good tire set for my '93 that matches my driving needs. I use my vette as a daily driver, with 85% of the driving being highway. I've put over 24,000 miles on it a year, so I primarily need a tire that will last a long time. I also infrequently drive with spirit, so I can't afford to have a tire with too hard a compound, but am willing to sacrafice handling for longevity. In addition, hydroplaning is a concern of mine, as I drive in rain (heavy) and shine. Right now, I've got Michelin Pilots in the rear, and goodyear HP's in the front. Both are unbearable. Traction & wet performance are good, but the noise is absolutley ridiculous. I spend up to 4 hours driving in the car in one day...So ride & tire noise are important issues. Both the Michelins and Goodyears were worn out in two years (<30K miles), and I've got to find something that will last longer than that.
Cost, of course is the other consideration. I need to find a cost-effective solution...
I've got Yokohama's on another vehicle (Discount Tire specific model) and I absolutely love them....420 tread wear and great handling, noise, wet & dry performance, price...But they don't make the Yokohama in the size that I need...
I'm looking at the Khumo ASX's, and I think that this is a relatively new product. I don't know how much experience people have had with them, but as much feedback as possible would certainly be appreciated.....
Thanks again!

I bought four in December to use as winter tires. They seem to work well, but I haven't
really wrung them out in the rain. They appear to be as quiet (in a qualitative sense) as
the SZ50's that were my previous rain tires & that seems very quiet to me indeed.
Ride and highway feel so far have been surprisingly good. Overall I'm satisfied with the
purchase, and service from Tire Rack was excellent.
Can't help on the longevity issue since I don't use the Vette that often in bad weather.
You might e-mail Luke directly to request an informed opinion.
(Note: I went down one size to 255/45 on these for winter use, and they actually feel
much better in the rain than the 275/40 I was running - but that is very subjective,
comparing old & dry rubber to fresh material. YMMV.)
Just put them on my '87 a couple of weeks ago and love them. The provide alot smoother ride and handle better then the BF Goodrich G-Forces I had on it. Thanks to mother nature, I had an oppertunity to try them out on wet roads the other day. Again the held the road and the rear end didn't feel like it was going to come around on every corner like it did when I had the G-Forces. So far I give them about 9; not ready to give them a 10 until I have some wear on them. Here's a couple of pictures of what they look like on ...
