Default ?Austin area track/local group info?

Guys and gals, I just moved to Austin from Alabama about three weeks ago. We have finally got settled in and now I'm looking for any local group info and local track info. Where I lived previously, we had a drag strip where we could race Friday nights and was checking to see if there is anything around here. I'm also into road course racing. Road Atlanta was a road course not too far from where I lived and would go out there on occassion. I think I've seen more Vettes in Austin than I have ever seen anywhere else. There must be a lot of vette fanatics here so any info would help. I'm also looking for a reptuable Corvette dealer. I need to get the steering column lock recal fixed.

Thanks,
Jeff

Welcome to Central Texas!

There are two drags strips in Central Texas: Temple-Academy Dragway(TAD), and River-City Raceway (RCR). Tad is located on hwy 95 about 10 miles south of Temple (or about 45 minutes from north Austin). RCR is located on Interstate-10 about 20 miles east of San Antonio (or about about 1.5 hr drive from south Austin). RCR is a lot better then TAD by a long shot due to better parking, better track surface, better track prep, etc.

As far as clubs go there is the Longhorn Corvette Club in Austin.

And for road racing the closest track isTexas World Speedway located in Bryan/College-Station about 2 hrs east of Austin.

It would be nice to have something in Austin. Maybe after they get through building that go-kart track or whatever it is out by the airport

Also, if you are interested there is a local gathering every Saturday night (weather permitting) at Parmer & FM 1431 behind the Whataburger. There cars of all types. And others from the south part of Austin meet at the 'Y' in Oak Hill.

Cool, I live off of Parmer so I know Parmer, but where does 1431 intersect? Is that up towards Cedar Park?

Yes, go north on Parmer until it intersects with 1431. Take a left and you will see the Whataburger about a block down.

TAD has new ownership and is making improvements. Both TAD and RCR have websites to see their schedules. There is also the Motorsport Ranch just South of Forth Worth that has some road racing.

Don Hewlett in between Round Rock and Georgetown is the one dealership I here the most from the Corvette poeple. My car just went in Saturday night around midnight for the Column lock I think.

Also another local website to check out is the Austin y-body org not a lot of traffic on it but some of the locals.

It's a 2003 Z06. It is more street than strip for for now. It's bone stock until I get the "wife approved" funding for mods.

Don't forget to try the "Y" in SW Austin, Saturday evenings.

Hwy 290 and 71, in the Alberston's parking lot. All types of rides there, and good info for what is going on during the weekend.

As far as 'Vettes in Austin... I lived in Dallas for 5 years, 'Vettes were as common as Camrys. Don't see nearly as many down south.
