Looking for shop in DFW to do custom Road Race cage for older vette
The 80 vette my wife and I have owned for 20 years is going along real well with the goal of using if for autox, high speed open road events and a few track days. I went to the NASA event this weekend and that really put the bug in my ear to have it reay for spring.
Even though this is an older vette nad it will never handle like the new ones a lot has been done to improve the car:
1) Front transverse spring with tubular control arms
2) rear glass spring (not too happy with it) and rod end strut rods
3) OMP seats
4) ZZ4 engine, aluminum flywheel and kevlar clutch
5) Hydraulic tilton master and CNC slave for clutch
6) CCM wheels of 9.5x17 for front and 10.5x18 rear with Kuhmo MX tires which arrive tomorrow that should fit under the flares
7) Plans for Gulstrand 5 link kit in the near future
8) Richmond 5 speed and scattershield
What I need now is a cage that would be custom to allow for bolt in cross brace in rear hoop, bolt in side bar(s) and a way to remove the T-tops by moving the front upper bar around the level or weld on a tab to fab a screw and know type retainer. Can anyone recommend someone in DFW that has knowledge of road race type cages?
I did talk with Kirk Racing out of Birmingham AL and they have done cages for years. They can do a custom if I leave the car with them for 3 days which seems reasonable. However if I could find a more local shop that would be more preferred.
Did you try Meyer in Lewisville. I think I recommended them at the luncheon. If you want to meet me over here on Sat. I can take you over there. These guys make NHRA and Nascar stuff.
I couldn't remember the name of the place and will check them out as one of the possibilities for sure. This Saturday is too busy to get over there since I was at the races down at Colledge station last Saturday and need to get caught up on a bathroom remodel.
Also thanks to the other folks I'll also visit the LG and Minette's shops. I know the LG folks now how to build a chassis for racing!
Dave; Go to Wolfe Racecrafters over in Arlington. They build full cages and tube frames as well. They can do any type and will do it mild steel or chrom moly and to about any size tubing you want. Custom yes in deed....ZO6Bill
Kurt Janish in Wylie does a lot of custom stuff for the SCCA racers and can do pretty much anything you want. If he is not comfortable with something, he will be the first to bring the concerns to you before doing any work.
