Default Moving from Dallas to Austin

We bought a house kind of betweem Dripping Springs and Buda.

Comes complete with "Uber" garage, so I see hosting a mod day in my future... :D

Would like to hook up with the Austin CF crowd when we get settled, so chime in if you are local!

Welcome to Austin, the best place to live in Texas. I hope ya like cars, women, traffic congestion, live music, great food, a high cost of living, bad drivers, politicians and smart butt people like myself. Check out Austin-Y-Body.org, it just started and should be a great place to make some friends.
Congrats on the move  Your gona love it down here.

Ted,

Whats this "We" thing. Last I heard it was just you. Did someone comeback in your life or is it someone new. Either way I wish you the best. Austin is a great place but the traffic is getting bad. What happened with I2? What are you going to be doing in Austin?

The "We" is an old we, not a new we :jester

Still with i2, just need a little more room for cars, furniture and dogs. I never go to the office anyway, so the change of city is not a big issue.

We moved out to the south of the city - no Round Rock traffic, and downtown is a 20 minute sprint right up MOPAC.

Actually, we are moving right in the middle of that great driving route that was posted y'day - what a coincidence :D We will be giving it a run this weekend...

Thanks for all the comments, and I will definitely look you guys up once we get settled!

I sure hope that was sarcasm because I think we may have a little more traffic congestion in Dallas (probably on 635 alone but that's just me) and it's not very cheap to live here either. It's crazy how big Dallas and Houston are, let alone Austin and San Antonio, and for all of these big cities to be in one state. I guess that's why they say everything is big in Texas.

Most of the neighborhoods that I'm aware of in the area between DS and Buda are fairly new with houses on acreage (as opposed to a postage stamp city lot). I'm in Ruby Ranch sub, that's closer to Buda on 967 and I know there are 2-3 or more for sale here that are new. I think there are a few in Oak Forest subdivision, Elliot Ranch, Lavetana <sp>. All these are in the area between DS and Buda. Several more similar subs further out on 1826 and rr12. There should be plenty to choose from. If you need help in this area, I'm fairly familiar with it, shoot me an e-mail. BTW, what's an "uber garage" ?

Thanks Lone73...

We are looking for acreage (at least 2, less than 5) in this area, so maybe I'll take you up on your offer!

We had another inspector out there today, with better results. I think we are going to approach the seller again with some $$ concessions. I would rather keep this house and make some major repairs - both the wife and I are really in love with the place.

Let me be more specific. 3-car garage attached to the house for HER. For ME... The previous owner built a 2200 sq ft garage off to the side, with an air conditioned office, running water... The main garage area is heated, wired for sound, has built-in workbenches and full power. Oh, and room for a good 6 or 7 cars in the main area. I see a 4-post lift in my near future, and I already have the air tools :D

I feel like we are stealing this place at the accepted price, and think we can dump some $$ into the repairs.

We'll see! Going to be eating Ramen noodles for a few years I think...
