Default Best Drives in Texas

Well since I'm new to the forum, I'm not sure if anyone has done this before , so I'll give it a shot. I've driven on damn near every road in our great state and thought I'd list some great drives. These make nice day trips and have great views, curves, straights, speed sections everything a corvette needs to get its blood flowing. Add the ones you like also!
Central Texas: Austin-2222 to 620, take lime creek rd to 1431, left to marble falls, eat at the bluebonnet cafe(best pies in the world). Head back out 1431 west to Kingsland then take 2342 to inks lake and on to park road 4 then to hwy 29, turn right and head Home.

Austin-290 to Henly. Turn left at 165 go till you get to Blanco. Head south, left, on 281 a couple miles till the Hwy 32 exit. Turn left and follow(The Devils Backbone,Sweet) to Wimberly. Then Hwy 12 back to 290 in Dripping Springs and back to Austin.

If you need some in S.A, C.C, Waco and other parts just ask or post your favs.

Did the Lime Creek Rd. run with some of the Austin Area Corvette Enthusiasts last year. What a great drive that was!!!

Give us more...how about something closer to Dallas?

The first trip I made when I bought my first vette about 4 months ago was across 1431 to Marble Falls. What a blast! :yesnod: And you are right about the pie at Bluebonnet.

Some of the best drives are south east of Dallas. There is a nice cruise from Flower Mound to the N. East just depends on the time available.
Flower Mound out to Hwy 75, head north to 544, take a right go to Wylie, out to Lavon, then head north on 78, go past Farmersville and Blue Ridge till it turns east, go thru Nobility, Leonard up to Bailey then head south east on 11 to Commerce. Look for 224 out of Commerce, head south toward Greenville. Then get on 380 back to Farmersville and back home the way you started or continue to 75 then head south to home.
If you don't mind a longer trip the Tyler, Jacksonville and Athens loop is very nice. Lots of forest roads with hills and curves. I've got some good trips down around Waco also if your interested.

I love that Henly loop. Sometimes I just cruise out that way to Blanco, have an ice cream at the DQ and cruise back.

Hey Longhorn, nice hearing from ya. Next time you head out to Concan there's a sweet drive out of Castroville up to Medina Lake out to Pipe Creek . Then head to Bandera, Tarpley, Utiopia and your almost to your place. Sweet hill country drive.

My country house is in Utopia. We usually go 290 to Henly and cut accross to 281, then west to 46 to 470. I only took the vette once because our place is about 1.5 miles down a dirt road. It was too much of a pain to clean it afterwards.

We usually take the wife's turbo volvo. If you know of a better route, please let me know.

I've taken some trips out near Enchanted Rock and enjoyed the drives. I've also driven the vette on hwy 6. in Waco. A great road for a high speed run when there is little traffic.

We just love Hwy 4 to the west and then south of Jacksboro (northwest of Fort Worth), some great wide open stretches there and then the fantastic hill curves coming out of the Possum Kingdom Lake area....

Hey longhorn I thought you said your place was in concan, my mistake.
You might try turning off of 281 at 473 just south of Blanco and head west.Follow 473 to Comfort then head SW on 27. If you have the time head out 27 all the way to Ingram and Mountain home! Its a fantastic drive along the Guadalupe river. Its called camp road by most people because all along it are boys and girls summer camps and also some great camping sites and lodges can be found to enjoy the cold clear water. Once in Mountain Home head west on 41 till you hit 83, head south to Hwy 39 go left to 187 then south and youll run right into Utopia. If your short on time just turn off of 27 at Hwy 16 and head south instead of going on camp road(but you'll be sorry) and go to Medina then on to Bandera and out to your place on 470.
Good Luck let me know what ya think!

Hey C5 Longhorn, there are some great drives out in your neck of the woods(that was a pun). A good drive is from Sealy to New Ulm then up to Industry, then to Brenham. Then head on 105 to Navasota then hop on 105 over to 1774 and head south through Magnolia back to NW Houston.
Also 1725 between Waverly and Cleavland is good fun.

I drive this one pretty curvy good highspeed road everyday on my way to work and play and it never gets old. The easiest way to get to it is to go north on I75 and take the stacy road exit. When you exit go east on Stacy rd. It is a long straight road good for some highspeed. Then you can either turn left or right onto Country Club. I always go right but I think there is some good runs to the left also. If you turn right just keep going down Country club and it will be really curvy and its alot of fun. I can take the turns at about 50-60 even with my old worn out C3 suspension. If you want to know more roads just let me know, I know a few. :seeya

That is a pretty hidden road there. I used to take it years ago on my weekly drive from DFW to Cleveland.
