Default (TX) 3 Moving Violations in 3 years....add $100.00 / Sept. 1

Fox News in Houston reported that beginning Sept. 1, moving violations were to be given 2 points. 6 points in a three year period would cost the violator an additional $100.00 . They reported that statistics show that the accident ratio is high on Texas Freeways and this is suppossed to curb it.

What's up with that and I am glad I find out about these things through the Media at the last minute. :mad

That's only if you let it hit your record. Pay the extra money to a ticket defender and get rid of it! It's far more damaging to your insurance cost than a simple $100 addition to the ticket.

Jeeesh...so typical of our legislative policies these days. Instead of better eductating/training all drivers before they are allowed a licence they just decide to up the penalties. :mad

So if we are going to the point system, are we gonna get the pay your ticket in advance thing I have heard about. I heard that in some states you buy a ticket coupon book in advance. If you get pulled over you give the officer a coupon and go on your way. No ticket and no points. Is this for real, or did I just dream this up?

I agree that I think it is all about money. There are a number of new fees (increases) going into effect in Texas at the same time. Our government can't control spending, so they do things like this.

Which brings me to another pet peave. We pay for new roads largely through fuel taxes and other taxes. So why is it legal to charge for driving on toll roads? And they are about to raise tolls by .25 in the Houston area. They are double dipping us. We still pay the full fuel taxes, and a toll.

Well, can we just pay the cops cash when pulled over? Or would we get locked up for trying to bribe cops?
damned if we do, damned if we don't, oh well, guess just have to drive the speed limit

0 point if you are 10% or less over the speed limit.

The other new law:
Vacate the lane closest to the emergency vehicle, if the highway has two or more lanes traveling the direction of the emergency vehicle; or
Slow to a speed not more than 20 miles per hour (mph) less than the posted speed limit when the posted speed limit is 25 mph or more; or
Slow to a speed not more than five mph when the posted speed limit is less than 25 mph.
A violation is a punishable by a maximum fine of $200. If the violation results in property damage, the maximum fine increases to $500. If the violation results in bodily injury, the offense is enhanced to a Class B misdemeanor.

Yet one more that will impact those with video screens mounted in the dash.
Having a video display that is visible from the driver’s seat is illegal. SB 209 expands the definition of video receiving equipment to include digital videodisc players, videocassette players or similar equipment. This equipment may be used only if it is located so that the video display is not visible from the operator’s seat.

First DWI will cost you an additional $1,000 per year for three years just to keep your license. That is in addition to the normal fines. Part of the new "surcharge" system. If you don't pay, your license is automaticly suspended.

Gov promised "no new taxes", so then comes up with this surcharge system. They say it is not a tax.

Yea, surcharge... I received a letter from the state that "any" diesal powered vehicle that is rated for 14000# or greater load capacity will be subject to a 1% surcharge on 97 and newer or 2.5% on 96 and older.
What this means is when you purchase a motorhome diesal pusher or one of our big truck motorhomes you now have to pay TT&L&"S" which equates to BULL-HOCKEY

Don't even get me started on the POS Sam Houston parking lot. They claim that raising the toll will reduce the amount of traffic on it. The problem is that people driving on it aren't doing it because they like to, they are doing it because they have to. When the rate goes up, it just means they pay more money... thereby filling the coffers of the crooked county commisioners in Harris County... :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad
