Default [TMS] How bad is traffic on race day?

I'm planning on heading out to TMS for the IRL race on Saturday night 6/7. How early should I leave Dallas to make it there with plenty of time to spare? Any shortcuts would also be appreciated....I hear traffic is terrible.

Traffic is absolutely OBSCENE. I've seen 114 backed up past the airport for NASCAR races. I've never driven TO the race, but I've driven 35W, 114, 820 (Don't even frickin DREAM of taking 820) on race weekend, and I was stunned by the amount of traffic. It might be lighter for IRL, but NASCAR was absurd.

Best bet- come from the North. A lot less people driving in from Denton that there are from Ft Worth and Dallas.

Traffic will be heavy but NOTHING near like NASCAR races. Try to avoid 114 if at all possible and as Umrswimr suggested, come down I35 from Denton if you can. Some come west on 170 to I35 then go south. I'll leave about 5:30 or so from Arlington. Good luck.

Thanks everyone! I was planning on taking 35E up to Denton and then come back down 35W to TMS. I'm still going to head out there around 4:00. If I get there way early, I'll just have to have an extra beer or two.

I am leaving in the morning via limo :D and like mentioned above, it is not bad.

Look at it this way. There is 234,000 at the Winston Cup race and at the very best, only 65,000 at the IRL race so leaving at 4:00 is fine unless you could maybe swing 3:30 :jester

Joe: You never called me about extra space in that limo!!! I'm going to try and buy tickets Saturday night...I'm assuming there won't be a problem just showing up and buying last minute based on the numbers you are projecting, right??

There will be plenty of tickets for the Craftsman Trucks/IRL weekend.

Definitely less of a crowd this weekend. Still big, but nothing like NASCAR weekend. That's the only time the back stretch seats hold any people. How bad have you got it?
