[TEXAS] Vanity Plates...Any way to check availability online???

I am starting to think about getting a personalized plate (Texas). So far, I have not found a way to look up my ideas to see if they are already taken. Can anyone out there describe the Texas process and let me know if there is a way to check before applying for a specific plate?

When I got mine for my truck they were able to look it up at the Tax Office to see if was used elsewhere.

When I got mine I filled out a form that let me list my top 3 choices.

My first two were taken, but I got my third choice.

I called my local TxDot office and asked them to look them up to be sure. :yesnod: :yesnod:
