Id be looking on the lower end of things simple place w/garage renting for now.
Medical not too far away is preferrable Im a frequent flyer so to speak

The nice parts are generally Henderson and the south/southwest/northwest parts.

anything in N. Vegas / NE / Central Vegas tends to be the hood…

I’m in Inspirada in Henderson and it’s one of the best selling communities in the US and Henderson is one of the safest cities in the US as well. I’m an officer and have patrolled the south/southwest part of town for a while and it’s generally a very nice area as well. I highly recommend spending a weekend here and driving the areas you’re interested in.

Feel free to DM me if you have any questions

Moved out of CA 3 years ago to Vegas for a job we love it here I am retired military and its a big military city which I like. We bought a home up in North West Vegas very nice area wasn't quite as built up as it is now up by us but this city is growing quickly and it way better than CA.
Just wish there were more car meet ups for us Vette guys.

Vegas will be retirement home for me. It’s a easier cheaper pace of life with always something to do. Then again u see where I’m from.....

Coming Into town if u take the 95 north towards Centennial hills it’s lots of apt buildings
and 3 hospitals. Keep in touch with ex-coworkers. Good luck

I'm in Sun City West Arizona. Sun City West is in the West Valley of the Phoenix Area. The home are inexpensive and you can register your Corvette as a Historic Vehicle if it is more than 25 years old or have it insured as a classic, and you will be exempted from smog inspections. And, Arizona does not have a front plate and fully meets the CC&Rs (Corvette Code of Regulation). You can also join the Auto Restoration Club (ARC) and you will have access to a fully equipped auto shop.

Considered AZ also...too quick of a move in 99 had me coming back to Ca unfortunately. .
Tuscon back then wasnt bad but felt like I was in some corner of the planet lol

Might be open to W AZ, just not "in" Phoenix. Too many people, crime etc
Quiet area, medical not too far off, something simple and low $.

If the bad element from LA hadnt plugged this city up I may have considered staying just for the good medical I have.
Cant go anywhere wihtout getting approached and find I dont drive my 'El as carjacking is a real thing here.
Shame...lots of great 2 lane rural roads just cant stop anywhere. lol
Long as theres AC and a pool Ill take heat over snow any day

You might want to look at Boulder City, too. It's a small town but close to all Vegas has to offer. Lots of car events throughout the year and a few good Corvette techs in the area or near by.

We had a place (vacation home) in Vegas for over 30 years. Would weekend/long week from SCal. The got relocated to Nashville, but kept the Vegas house. Wife finally retired in 2019, and we opted to live in Las Vegas full time.
It took 6 months but we finally just got tired of if. The traffic SUCKS. It's as bad as SCal and sometimes worse. Driving the local freeways is always a thrill (or horror). The surface streets are usually worse, as they are always torn up or being worked on, for months/years at a time. And it always the major cross town streets and always in the same directions.
Crime is also kind of out of control (although Metro PD/Henderson PD are the best) NHP not so much. North LV is really bad. Parts of old Henderson same. The rest of town is better, but just slightly. Car break ins. Catalytic converter theft is up from 4 in 2018 to over 4000 just last year. Street crime in the tourist corridors is also up big time. House break ins are also up hugely.
Just remember that Clark county (which comprises all of Las Vegas and Henderson) now has over 3 million people. It's become VERY crowded.
Car insurance is costly here, due to the thousands of scum sucking lawyers that litter to area. Back when there were still phone books, the only category in the book that was larger than lawyers was for outcall girls. You know it's bad when there are almost as many lawyers as hookers.
Land costs in Clark county are very high, which makes all housing very expensive and also means tiny lots (zero clearance ie 10') is pretty much the norm now. Average housing cost is now between $350-500k (yeah, cheap compared to Cal) and taxes are going up as well. Rental rates have almost doubled in the past 4 years. A 2 bedroom, 1000 sq ft apartment in one of the safer areas will run you $2000 or more a month, plus utilities.
Las Vegas does have a bunch of large hospitals, but we also have LOTS of low income folks, so urgent care and emergency rooms are always packed. But the upside is, there are a goodly supply of doctors and specialists. That said, if you're really sick, SCal hospitals are better but that's just my opinion. YMMV
We were going to build a new home on the far SW side of town (Mountains Edge). A 3500 sq ft on 1/2 acre. Base price was $900k, so well over $1 mil after you do the pool and backyard. A week before breaking ground, the developer calls and says "hey, i know you're not interested, but maybe someone you know might be. We're doing a new development in Pahrump (45 miles SW of Las Vegas). We drove out to take a look. Same basic house (1 less bedroom) on a 3/4 acre lot. $325k. BOOM. Bought it on the spot.
Pahrump is a small town (< 30k people). Lots of space. Quiet. Almost NO traffic. Lower crime rates. Decent schools. NO shopping (well, a Walmart, Smiths/Albertsons grocery), but Vegas is a 55 minute drive (2 lane divided hy all the way). Downside is the local hospital SUCKS but local DR's are OK and the only entertainment is the 5 or 6 "locals" casinos (read, TINY). No movie theater. But Spring Mountain racetrack is here (Ron Fellows driving school) and there are plans for a 500 room hotel/casino complex with a theater and bowling alley next door to SM.
Oh, and we're a very friendly firearms state. Open carry anywhere.
As others have suggested, come and visit for a week or so and look around. RENT for a year before you decide to buy, as many people come to Vegas and it burns them out. It's the 24/7/365 nature of having gambling everywhere, drugs plentiful and free booze in the casinos. It tends to fry the unsuspecting. Also know that the LOCALS Vegas is far different from the tourist Vegas. The average tourist never gets more than a block away from the Strip or Freemont street.
Boulder City is going to be tough. VERY expensive due to no casinos, thus no casino taxes coming in.
Southern Nevada has a lot to offer, but a lot of downsides as well. You eventually get used to the heat. 110-115 in July and August is the norm. Winters are very mild. Snow skiing is a short drive. And everywhere in the country (or out) is easy due to every airline flying into and out of McCarran (now Harry Reid) airport.
Hope that helps

Well,

That's your take on Vegas I lived in SoCal for 18 years and the traffic is not even close to CA traffic the drives here do suck but just about everywhere I have went in this country people just are shitty drivers period. Every city has it problems no matter where you live it just up to you to decide what your willing to deal with.
Pahrump is just to rural for us North West Vegas is a great area where we live I work at the airport on the Corporate side so I have to drive the strip for a short bit to get to my job other than that we hardly ever go there. Vegas is growing at a high rate and I dont see it slowing down anytime soon. In another 10 years it may be up to 5 million people living here then it may be time to move to somewhere smaller.

Zoom that doesnt bother me one bit.

3 yrs ago when I moved here it was mostly retirees and lots of low income/homeless types.
Few jails bus their releases over here, sign em up for welfare and hit the streets...they can be aggressive and work in numbers.

Since the eviciton moratorium was lifted all the peeps evicted from LA are now here. Its gotten real bad...to the point Im leery of driving my 'El.
Carjacking is big here.

Vegas...knowing where/where not to look is the issue it can be time consuming. More tips the better
Ill be stuck here for roughly 6 mos or less then I wanna pack my bags. Not into Casinos gambling etc

What do you mean by the Locals of Vegas...heard mixed opinions.

You couldn't have picked a worse time to move here for a short period of time. Rents have skyrocketed. Apartments are is super short supply, even though they're building them at an alarming rate. 1 bedrooms are averaging $1500-2000 and 2 bedrooms even higher. If local news reports are to be believed, landlords are now charging hundreds of non refundable dollars to just put in an application. IF they accept you, they tack on lots of additional fees, plus first, last and deposits.
As to where to reside, I'd suggest as far south or SW as you can be, or look at Summerlin and NW. Avoid N Las Vegas unless you go to the far far north, but consider where you'll be working, as long commutes during the rush hours can be murder.
"Locals" refers to folks who have been here for awhile and have learned the ins and outs of life in a tourist oriented city.
PM me if you want to know more. Happy to be of help.
