Default Arizona Z owners Mt Lemmon Cruise August 15th

Ok time for the First of many Arizona Z cruises. The first one will take place in Tucson on August 15th for a cruise up Mt Lemmon.

Meeting time will be a early 8-8:30 am to take advantage of a nearly empty road and good parking at the top. Mt Lemmon is the perfect location for a mid summer cruise as temps at the top are usually anywhere from 10-20 degrees cooler then Tucson.

Phx guys. Please coordinate with FNBADAZ06 for info for the cruise down to Tucson. It will be an early start for you guys but it will be worth it.

Feel free to post meeting info in this thread.

For the Tucson meeting location I have made a quick map. I have shown the closest Chevron Gas Station so everyone can fill up for the drive.

At the top there is a few places to grab food so we can plan to hang out and grab a bite to eat in the cooler weather.

Map:

Please post up any questions.

Thanks
Hunter

Phoenix metro guys.....

I say we meet off of I-10 around Warner/Ray/Elliot, etc. at around 6:00 a.m.
Since I don't live around that area, any suggestions on where it would be easiest for us to assemble before heading off ? I'm sure some of us will require some caffiene to start the morning off, so where ever would be best, I will differ to everyone with more knowledge of the area. I can get us to the rally point from there .

I'm all ears

There is a Circle K about 1/10 of a mile east of I-10 on the South side of Chandler Blvd. Chandler Blvd is one exit south of Ray. Its a nice new one, pretty big with ample parking in the rear.

10-4 to McDonalds on Catalina and Tanque Verde at 8:00. Patriot, assuming we come I-10 we would take the Kolb exit, then left onto Tanque Verde, then left on E. Catalina and the Mickey D's is right there on the corner? When I looked up Tucson McDonalds it doesn't show one there?

Does ANYONE from Phoenix want to go the back way through Florence / Oracle?? I-10 sux...

I'm down with that route if everyone agrees Many opportunities to blow out the carbon on that route, except when you cruise by the federal prison in Florence
You just have to be REAL careful on speed when driving thru Oracle/Oro Valley....most of their local government revenue comes from speed traps it seems
If that is the route we decide to take, we can just run Skyline, Orange Grove, etc. to get to the rally point at Tanque Verde and Catalina Highway. I lived there for 20+ years so I can get us there, which ever route we decide to take.

How are the roads going the back way? Are they all beat up? Can we get to a nice cruising speed without big potholes in the road?

It's been a while since I've taken this route, but because the highway is not used by heavy vehicles anymore (generally speaking, it's no longer the main trucking route..that's I-10's purpose), ruts and potholes were at a minimum. I certainly have used this route in the past with a "nice cruise speed" , but can not say with any certainty that the road conditions are optimal. I'm willing to give it a try, though

It can't be any worse than dodging tires on the 10 and getting sand blasted by semis. I vote for the back route!!

GTABurnout,
I am in Oro Valley and would love to join in on the Mt. Lemmon run. I am recently retired but my wife will most likely have to work. If anyone needs a ride, I will most likely have an empty seat available for anyone's hot, single sister-in-law. By the way, I am an incurable optimist! Just kidding. Anyone is welcome to tag along.

As usual, we'll need to accomadate around 12 cars, which could swell or shrink by departure date, and be at or next to fuel and caffiene facilities
Departure time will still be 6:00 a.m. from this new rally point.

Who has ideas of where to meet ?

Not sure about the route you had in mind but can we make the meeting spot a bit farther south? Maybe 101 and Chandler Blvd? This way the people on the south side dont have to travel north to turn around and go south again?

Well, the last time I went down to Tucson via Florence, the only way I knew was going straight out east on US60, past Apache Junction and catching the 79 Florence Junction heading south. Is there another, better way ? I'm all ears on where everyone would like to rally I'm already driving 45-50 plus miles just to meet at the rally point, as I'm up on I-17 North and Happy Valley Road
