I saw that too....it's still the top story on abc13.com.
Looks like a Z06 to me as well. Very scary stuff...if anyone finds out who this was, or if it was someone we knew or was on the forum, please let us know.
And apparently brand new. One of the links showed a bit of the houston transtar video of the wreck, but it was too small for me to see very much.
At 2:45 am my gut instinct is that he was not exactly sober, but that is only an instinct. A lot of people in Houston have jobs that include late-night hours (in fact I used to work mostly overnight when I firth moved to Houston).
WOW, that is terrible! Have to agree though that more than likely either A) he was new to his car and didn't know how to handle it or B) he might have had some outside help making him unable to control the car.
Like Jim Rome always says "Nothing good ever happens when your out after 2:00 am"
Hopefully he didn't feel anything. I hate to see accidents where there is a fire, that has to be the worst way to go!
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A brand new Corvette became a death trap for its driver. The driver was burned alive inside his sports car when he crashed off the Gulf Freeway.
The accident happened around 2:45am on the northbound feeder road near Beltway , claiming the life of the male driver in a newly purchased Corvette. There wasn't much left of the vehicle at the scene.
Authorities say the driver was travelling at a high rate of speed, went off the road and lost control.
"Witnesses say that they tried to rescue the individual but the flames were too great. It appears that he was northbound on the service road and was unable to make the curve because of his high speed. He struck a sign post up there and the vehicle burst into flames."
Saw on another site that he worked at Champion Chevrolet just across the freeway from where it hapened. Prayers to his family and friends.
Isn't that the same dealership that was on the news a couple months back because one of the service kids took a Z06 out for a spin and ended up getting it sideways and then wrecking it? Or was that somewhere else?

I was there...he was going REAL FAST....lost it way back and just kept going then striking the concrete pillar holding up the BW 8...The car disintegrated and burtst into flames...No way he would have survived the impact..It was a Z06 with paper tags and the only pieces left were his mufflers...
