Journey thru Hell...frozen hell
Dang, I decided to head out of town yesterday, forecast was for nothing severe, maybe a little rain...Took off about 10am heading west...about Weatherford it started to snow...then the gates of hell opened up and in less than 10 minutes the roads were GONE...I fell in behind a 18 wheeler and TRIED to stay in his tire ruts...but even THAT became treacherous as my car, being a mere 8 inches off the road was quickly bouncing off those high spots in the road...traction control saved my butt yesterday...cars and trucks were swerving off the road right in front of me and I just knew I was going to be stuck any second...Scarlet was a trooper and she kept going...thru conditions I NEVER would have knowingly subjected her to..We somehow kept rolling and I needed sooooo bad to clean off the ice off the wiper blades...took 3 hours to get from Weatherford to Cisco...I thought about turning back several times but the ramps to turn around were blocked, or impassable....if I had tried, I've NO doubt at all, I'd have been stuck like the dozens I could see that had foolishly tried. Then, once I saw that the hotels and motels alllll had 10-20 cars in front where people were trying to get rooms...and the lots were jammed packed, I'd keep rolling....Stopping meant I'd never get rolling again, the sides of the roads were jammed with those that had tried....Suddenly the conditions were a bit better....then better still...When I got to Abilene the roads were completely clear...not even wet....Soooo, I did what any good Corvetter would do..I found a car wash and began washing off all the ice and road grime...I pulled into San Angelo last night about 6, took 8 hours on a trip that is usually no more than 4 or so....but I'm alive....the only causality was my bottom middle spoiler...and my famous 'low mount license plate'....they vanished somewhere when we were skimming across that ice and snow.....I agree...No place for a Corvette to be, but she took it all - and when Mustangs, SUV's and Trucks were sliding off the road...It's nice to know she got me where I was going... I'm in San Angelo today...suns out and it's 67 degrees out....Not a trace of the snow and ice anywhere....hope you guys/gals in DFW are all ok!!

...and LICENSE PLATE FOR LEO to see, he probably has it for a souvenir now hahahahaha, glad you made it to your destination safely. I'll tell you what, that license plate would have not lasted one trip up my drive way; therefore, you ought to feel lucky that you had it that long. Don't worry, Sherri will comfort you.

You and your Vette did great Anthony! It reminds me of way, way back then when Lady Z and I were returning to Minot AFB, North Dakota from Alabama in the winter of 1980 in her 1976 Coupe. We hit snow at the N. Dakota border and by the time we got to the air base it was over 8 inches deep but we plowed through it with a little sideways skid every once in awhile. No active handling or traction control back then, just seat of the pants driving, what a blast! Congrats to you on your drive!!
