Default Things to do/places to stay in Fredricksburg

Jenn and I are wanting to take a weekend trip to Fredricksburg and I was wondering if anyone has an suggestions of places to stay, things to see, and my favorite, places to eat.

I haven't been there myself but from what my friends tell me you really can't go wrong with most of the restaurants. Antique shopping is a plus, personally I never really cared to go antique shopping until I found a box of very well preserved woodworking tools. They had been sitting around for years and the lady really couldn't sell them and had put them away. So I got them at a steal.

Take lots of photos and you might be hard pressed to find a room in that part of Texas if you want to stay overnight. Today, Nov. 3 is the first day of deer season and all of those rooms are likely booked...even the sleazy motels won't have their vacancy signs up.

Have fun!

My wife and I were just there last week. There are hotels a mile or two from town that are around $90 a night, or you can stay in walking distance from the main strip for about double that. There are also a number of Bed-and-Breakfasts.

Just walking up and down both sides of the street to the shops is the main event. There are plenty of benches outside the stores for you to sit on while the little lady is inside looking at girlie stuff. There are also some vinyards nearby, but I'm not into that (nor is my wife). If you are into seeing Luckenbach, TX (sp?), it's about 15 minutes away. If you aren't familiar with it - it's a bit of a surprise. After hearing the songs about it from Willie & Waylon and the boys, I was quite shocked at how small it is!

Have fun.

Enchanted Rock state park is very near Fred. Nice for easy hiking and picture taking. The roads around there are nice. Several nice routes through the hill country.

Fredricksburg is about the only city (area) I'd live in Texas these days. Nice country, nice folks.

Enjoy it.

F'berg has gottn very touristy. Just keep that in mind. We've been staying down the road in the little cowboy party town of Bandera.

Do not leave the area with out driving the following roads. 16, 335,336,337.

Enjoy

Check out Gasthaus Schmidt; they handle dozens of local B&B's. Much better than Best Western. www.fbglodging.com

There is the Nimitz Pacific War Museum there, lots of shopping, and good food. Have some schnitzel at Friedhelms. Good stuff and a variety of schnitzel!

Bone, I agree completely, and will add two more "must drive" roads in the same area - 39 and 1340. Last weekend Cherl and I drove ALL of those roads you mentioned plus the above two on the Goldwing in one day. Those are awesome roads, and very little traffic. Just be prepared to go a long way between bathrooms breaks!

I'd also recommend the Fredricksburg Winery ...right down the street from the Nimitz Museum...and across the street and up a couple of blocks, you'll find Chocolat...they have the BEST liquour filled chocolates EVAR!!!
