DFW folks- Anyone know of a good antiques place?
My new wife and I are looking for a dining room table set. So far, I've been less than impressed with the new stuff available, so I thought I'd start look for antique items. Anyone have any good suggestions? I'd rather avoid the "junk and trinket" places and focus on furniture specifically- somewhere in the <$4k range for the table, chairs, and china "thingy".
The Wagon Yard, down in Granbury, has some nice furniture. Not the cheapest, but not too pricey. Check out www.wagonyard.com for some more info.
HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

Montgomery Street ... (we used to sell there...but got out of the biz.)
Depending on your "hurry" and if you want to have some fun...you might try Auction Depot on Monday Night. Thats where we bought most of our stock that we cleaned up and sold.
www.auctiondepottx.com On Solana north of 183 in Haltom City...you'll pay a premium over auction price + sales tax and have to be able to haul the stuff out yourself...but its fun and you can get a good deal. Just be sure to look over the selections carefully and bid with your head..not your heart.

Word of Caution regarding the Auction. Entire "Suites" are usually sold on a "whole bid" process....that means that they sell the pieces (all the chairs, the table, a sideboard or buffet, etc.) individually...then they lump the whole shebang together, add up the individual totals, add a premium and try to sell as a single lot...if anyone bids on the lot thats how it gets sold. They will always announce the whole bid before they try to sell any of the stuff and Jack (Auctioneer) usually explains it couple of times. That part can be a crapshoot when trying to get a solid set. If you buy the pieces individually someone may up the ante by whole bidding...if you dont bid and buy individually you may end up paying more than you had to because you waited for the whole bid.
Also its not uncommon for chairs to be sold "times the money" which means you bid on a single chair and then pay that amount times the number of chairs. Again Jack will explain they are selling "as a lot" or "times the money".
The upside these days is that from a decorating standpoint, mix n match is "in" so the pieces dont all have to match.
Unlimited Limited Antique Mall in Addison (on Midway just north of Belt Line) has quality antiques, no crafts, no garage sale stuff, long time dealers ..

Thanks! My wife went to Montgomery Street yesterday. Found a great Mahagony one, but it didn't have chairs and they wanted $3800 for the table alone.
