abandon racetrack near Big D
My Bro in Law just told me about what he believes to be an abandon racetrack off hiway 377 between Arlinton & Dallas.
He says it stays unlocked & saw some local in a Viper "excercising" his car on it.....
Is this a hidden gem only the locals know about or is he on crack?
Thanks in advance...

What was Green Valley now (criminally) has a housing development and an elementary school on it.
Probably the track he saw was Motorsport Ranch. You can see their new addition of track from 377. It's neither abandoned nor open to the public.

oh well
I figured it was too good to be true.
Somebody is leaving the gate open cuz he drives by it all the time & says its always open.
Whatever it is. Whoever owns the property outa keep it locked. Its a liability concern waiting to happen. When some yahoo sneaks in there & wipes out!

Well, usually a person who is trespassing will have a hard time proving his point in court...but sometimes things do go crazy (i.e. hot mcdonalds coffee lady and the like).
Let me give some advice - when i was younger we used to go "mudding" in our trucks wherever we coudl find a place that wasn't "locked" up. To our surprise the police doesn't seem to care that nobody locked up the area. Just because a place doesn't have a fence around it doesn't mean you can just tear around and do what you like.
Don't get charged with criminal trespassing and criminal michief and worse....it's just not worth it.

MSR Cresson, 3.1 miles, 16 turns. It is open to go in and talk to people and even watch. But not to drive around. (Unless you have paid to do so and have signed the waiver.)

Shame that place is gone now.......have a lot of memories from going to watch the races on weekends when I was a few years older.
I even snuck into the place once (in the trunk of a friends Torino (think that's what it was called)) when low on cash

I actually raced at Green Valley's road course in a formula ford way back. Place was crazy and fairly dangerous. Coming back down the return road, you'd be heading right at the pits and take a slow 90 degree right just before the fence. Then there was the bridge over the creek and, yes, it was called Mustang Creek for a reason.
Good old days... when racing was dangerous and sex was safe.
Wow, look ... the 'track' is still there in a ghostly way...

Nope...all gone. That pic is about 5 years old. I live a few miles from there and have been to the site recently (was looking for old Mangham Field) and it's all houses now.

I've run at MSR a few times, and it's always had the gate open *at the road*. There's another gate guarding the entrance to the paddock and pits, that one may be closed when nobody's home.
BTW, MSR is about 15 minutes southwest of Fort Worth, not Dallas.
Have a good one,
Mike

Nope...it's completely gone now. Last summer, before they built the houses and had just cut the streets, I drove my Jeep out there and there was only a very small patch left of the track...if you look at the picture posted earlier it was the section of broken pavement at the very southern end...the turn out with the trees. Even that is gone now I believe.
