what way ya headding down? i'm taking 281 out of wichita falls... its pretty much a straight shot and takes you west of Dallas so you avoid the goofy 35 split issue!

Pretty much I-35 all the way down. I have to make a stop in Arlington for lunch. I just need a way to avoid Austin. Hit there at rush(????)hour the last time I went down. Took forever to cross that town.

That would work. How's 281 south of Wichita Falls? When you heading out and are you going to San Antonio?

Instead of coming down 35 all the way, try cutting over to 281 just south of Ft Worth. I make 2-3 trips a year to OKC and have taken to doing this. 281 is pretty decent and not heavily travelled until you get south of Austin (and not really bad then). The road is 4 lane a good part of the way and even where it isn't, passing is feasible. Yeah, you go through some towns, but nothing too bad...Marble Falls is the closet to what I would term a PITA, but nothing compared to 35. Construction on 35 around New Braunfels and the volume of traffic from the split south, trucks passing trucks, Austin, yada yada - no fun at all. Drive safely and let's see pics of the rides.

Have a good trip. I'm leaving Wichita,KS around 7am and heading south. I have to stop in Arlington and have lunch with a vendor. After that, I may just head over to 281 to avoid Ausin rush hour.

Here you go rockywoody:
