Default [Hou] - Dec. 3rd - Cruise to MSR Houston, Surfside, & Galveston

MAJOR UPDATE!!!

MSRHouston contacted me today. Due to this weekends event being their first, they have promised this group "exclusivity" of being at the track. Therefore, they have decided not to allow anyone not registered for this event (even if you are a member of the track) to attend. So, anyone who is up for meeting Sat morning and knocking out a quick cruise already laid out, let me know.

They did state that we could make an appt for NEXT weekend (Dec. 10th) and they would have someone there to show us around the facilities.

Whoever is up for moving it to next weekend, let me know.

Updated with meeting info, etc....

Meeting place: Starbucks (Post Oak/Westheimer)
Time: 8:30
Leave: 9:00

Directions: Take 610 around to 288 South and exit CR48 near Angleton to arrive around 9:45. We can hang at MSR Houston and stay till 11am for those who wish to cruise to Surfside and on to Galveston for lunch. We will head down 288 South and merge onto 332 E. We can stop along here for a photo opp and then head down 3005 E (which includes a couple of toll booths). This will take us across the San Luis Pass on into Galveston.

Once we get into Galveston we can eat somewhere on the island OR just cruise on through and come back up 45N and eat at Hooters at Nasa 1 & 45. (Insert your suggestions here). I figure we will be eating b/t 12:30 – 1pm. We can part ways from here.

Let me know if you have any suggestions.

Total mileage is around 220 round trip.

I might be in for the earlier parts of it. I'm not sure I want to be out till 3pm but hey, who knows! Where are our Houston meeting places?

Daren- I can't wait to see that new C6 of yours. I've already heard about your questionable "break in" procedures out at HRP

New to all this stuff. Anyway, I had a question about MSR Houston. Is this Motorsports Ranch near Angleton Texas off of 288? I thought this was a private club. Also, here is a dumb question that I have been trying to figure out......what the heck does SOTP stand for in all the tech posts

Yes, that is it. Private track to race on....however, it should be open to just driving in and watching, just like MSR in Cresson (I'm verifying this with MSR Houston management today).

SOTP = Seat of the pants...usually referring to SOTP acceleration...meaning quick acceleration that you feel in the SEAT OF YOUR PANTS

Will update post with new info when it is received.

Thanks for that SOTP explanation. I could not figure it out for the life of me. Anyway, I am about 15-20min from that track. After I posted my question about it I kept looking on the forum and found another post that had the sign up on it.

Correct, that is for the driving event that they have scheduled. To my knowledge it is full. However, this cruise is for those who are not signed up and want to go see the facilities for a short time, and then go for a cruise and grab lunch.

I'll be there. Might stay in Houston the night before to save some time-and be able to wash the road grime off from driving over.

BUMP IT UP Y'ALL!!!

Everyone is welcome to come, even if you are in a Corvette or not. Things are looking good and the weather looks like it will be nice, albeit much warmer than it is today.

I can't wait!

I did a test run last Friday. The only construction along the way was after Pearland on 288 for about 2 miles. They bring the lanes down to a narrow 2 lanes, but it should make for some fun driving with this crowd! Other than that, the drive was good, roads are good, and fairly scenic.

See you guys on Saturday!

PM me for questions.
