Default Big Bend Open Road Race?

Anyone here going to the BBORR in April? I sent my registration in last Friday. It will be my third time to race at Big Bend, but the first time in my own car. We will be running Grand Sport 2.....trying to average 135 mph with a max speed of 168.

Mike Hefner, are you out there? Do you have a C6 to take this year?

I'll be in Boerne for the Car Show April 16.
But I do plan to try the new October date for BBORR.

Good luck with your run!

Do you have to have a special license or equipment to run in that class?

To run Grand Touring (Tech (max) speed of 140) or above you have to have a ORR license. To get the license, you have to take a one day driving school before the event or have driven in the event in a lower class. A first time open road racer can not enter the BBORR above Grand Touring. Also, you need a fire extinguisher and five point harnesses for Grand Touring. For Grand Sport, you also need a fire suit and a SA95 helmet. Go here for more rules BBORR

It is a lot of fun!

Rob, our Corvette Club is considering getting together and cruising up to the BBORR in April. We are in Del Rio Texas, only about 2 hrs away from Sanderson, maybe 2.5 - 3 hrs from Ft Stockton. I have been reading the BBORR web site for info, but am still looking for info to pass on to the Club. Do you have any experience at BBORR, what is the best place to go to watch and have fun, is this a HUGE event, any other thoughts???

Thanks for the help in advance.

Nate,

This will be my 3rd BBORR. It is a worthwhile event to attend. There should be about 130 cars participating....probably about half of them Corvettes.
The parade and car show on Friday are a lot of fun. To watch the race, you need to either volunteer to be a course worker or get on somebodies pit crew. If you are in the pit crew, you can watch the cars take off and finish (on the return leg). How many of you are there? I could sign a couple of you up as my pit crew if you are interested.

Last year, they had cameras set up in a couple of places on the course and they were broadcasting to a screen at the park in Fort Stockton. They claimed they were planning on having more cameras this year, but I haven't heard any confirmation of this.

Nate,
This will be my sixth run. All that Rob says is right on. However, if you're going to make the trip, why not run? My first year I had no idea what I was doing and entered at 100. I was hooked! Since then my navigator (my better half) has decided she likes driving better so now we run two cars. We did pretty well last year in 135 and 145. To tech at 124 and average as high as 110 really doesn't require much investment and you'll be involved with some of the nicest people. Don’t worry about winning. Just being there is a blast. See ya there.

Hey Rob,
I'm still vetteless...I was thinking about running my truck but would need to do a few things to it so I could run at a decent speed. Looks like I'll have to miss this year. Have fun!

Hey Mike,

Maybe you can get a Vette in time for the October event? If my navigator falls through, would you be interested in co-driving my car with me?
