Default Looks like Palomar Mtn. wont be on our SCMR schedule anymore

http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/n...27palomar.html
Azzhole bikers are ruining one of the best roads in San Diego County. We have used the south and east grade many times for some of the nicest cruises on the SCMR's. Now looks like we will have to cross this route off the list.

I was just reading this in the paper.... looks like the biker crash we passed on 8/14 resulted in a death That was my first trip up the mountain and I was pretty shocked at how aggresive the bikers were riding. It's understandable that the locals are pissed, but oil on the curves is taking it a bit far

Bob, you don't have active handling??????

Maybe we can go at 6:00 at the crack of dawn! That last run was not like most of the others, since we left so late. It's usually a bit more quiet during the early morning hours.

Yes Daaaaaaave, I have AH. Alot of good it will do if the CHP targets those Palomar Mtn roads like they do the 74 in OC; heavily patroled and lots-o-radar. The time of day may not matter if they decide to increase their enforcement, just the particular day and it looks like Saturdays and Sundays. What, bikers don't get up early to enjoy the same open roads?

Someone explain how this affects us? I know that there will be blanket enforcement, but it's gonng take more than the residents building a database of rude and possibly illegal behavior by people. Are you kidding me? I hate to break it to those whiny people, but rude behavior is not illegal. It's funny though. They are acting like kids complaining to their parent about someone playing on "their street". I'm interested to see what happens.

Now here I thought you were worried about the oil traps set by the residents!!!

I don't recall seeing nearly as many bikers in the early morning hours as during late morning.

As far as the neighbors complaining, I'll bet it's the loud Harleys that irritate them the most. Our exhausts aren't nearly as loud. Just don't let any of the residents find out what our nickname is (Double Yellow Dirt Bags)!!!!

It seems that whenever there is larger-than-normal LEO presence on certain "performance" roads, the twisties, it's because the two-wheelers typically have done things to draw attention to themselves and the roads they run on. Many of the same ones we like. I used the Ortega Highway as an example. To many speeders, accidents and other stupid things people do when they drive, have ruined that road as one we can drive on, at least when it comes to "spirited" driving. The Sherrif's Dept., CHP and other LEO's regularly set radar speed traps. Many of us did a run in conjuction with an NSX group last year. We started in OC on the 74 and ended up at Palomar. I can't remember how many times I was reminded, "Don't even think about speeding on this road" or "Keep your eyes peeled for the cops". Needless to say, the trip from OC to Lake Elsinore was visually nice, but as a drive, not so good. This could very well happen on Palomar Mtn. If you have driven the south or east grade, it is a great road to drive our cars on, but I for one, don't want to worry about taking a corner and running into a radar unit. I want to be able to throw my car into the curves and not think about cops being around the next bend. I hope this cleared it up for you. It is just my opinion.

Maybe spend more time on Mt Laguna. I loved that cruise!

We did the Ortega Highway on SCMR 10 at a rather nice clip with no problems. I hear all the time its a speed trap but I drive it rather often and dont see that myself.

So the "locals" are complaining. What are there...about six houses in that whole area??
...and they want to lower the speed limit to keep people from speeding???!!! Now, thatmakes a lot of sense....lets lower it to zero so there won't be ANY speeding??????
We'll see just how this affects the SCMRs.
By the way, the next SCMR (#16?) might be on Sept 18...a couple of us are working on it.

Can still make the run into Julian and eat breakfast or lunch there. I am not eager to make a run up the mountain while the press is hot on it. Not like this is new.. Flairs up EVERY SINGLE SUMMER . Bikers always die, people always complain, and the LEO's make a show for a few weeks, then it goes back to the way it was.

There are quite a few more than six homes on Palomar. I don't live there but I work there and the problems caused by the bikers would make you pull your hair out if you had to deal with those idiots.

Its not about a bunch of residents being cry babies. So many of the bikers are rude and aggressive to residents and visitors because they act like the mountain is their property when they're up there. Until some of you live or work in an environment like these bikers creat EVERY weekend why don't you keep your clever, snide remarks to yourselves.

I don't know anyone up there who's complained about 4 wheel vehicles. Most of you have absolutely no clue about the dangerous conditions caused by the riders if you only go up there once or twice a year. I've almost been hit head-on a couple times by some of the azzholes and it happens to others ALL the time. Every weekend and we're all sick of it. You can't pull out on the road without worrying about getting hit or being involved in a collision because some nut job passes you or another driver on a curve with oncoming traffic that no one can see.

Okay....what's your solution?
Sounds like the problem on Palomar is the same as the problem on the street each one of us lives on...only to a much greater degree.
Oh, and...clever, snide remarks are part and parcel of CF membership! You should know that by now! (BIG GRIN)
