Default Need Advice from LA area locals

I'm coming out to LA. tomorrow and have a few hours to kill before I head north to Ventura for work. I'm arriving at LAX at 1:30 PM and will pick up a rental car. I would like to go see the Hollywood/Beverly Hills tourist stuff for a few hours. I want to drive down Rodeo drive, see the Hollywood sign, and anything else that can be done in a short amount of time.

I need suggestions on what I should check out, what roads I should take to get there, and any other advice.

Also, if anyone wants to meet up for a little while, I'd be up for that also.

Thanks,

That sounds like quite a bit right there... You cant do too much. The traffic here sux so bad that it could take you an hour to go 20 miles. On a Sunday, it could take you 20 minutes to go a few couple of miles or so through Hollyweird... STAY AWAY from Long Beach! The Long Beach GP is tomorrow.

For your goals:
* Rodeo drive is an expensive boutique shopping area ala Pretty Woman. Its very nice to see if you are into that stuff.
* Kodac Theater and Manns Chinese Theater. Typical inner city tourist area.
* Giffith Park Observatory - great veiw of LA and the Hollywood sign. If you are a James Dean fan, this is a must go to destination. The Terminator made his first appearance at the Observatory. Everyone I take on tours of LA love this spot.

Alternate suggestions: Venice Beach. Santa Monica Pier. Drive along the coast...

Thanks for the tips. Venice Beach may be a better alternative for me. I'm planning on heading to Oxnard around 6/7 PM.

I'm sorry that I missed this post. This weekend was filled with car stuff to do.

On Saturday (and Sunday) there was the Mopar Spring Fling Show, on Sunday there was the Fabulous Ford Show and a Cadillac Show.

They are filming a Spike TV show on the 53 Favorite cars on Tuesday in Santa Monica.

I hope that you had a fun time.

Brad
