I'm considering investing in one and would love to try one out - hell, bring it over and we'll play car one weekend day. A very good buddy of mine drives a Z3 and we seem to have the Saturday ritual of washing and waxing the cars - a third, with a cool tool, is always welcome.
If you do, pls IM me or reply here. Thanks. I'd happily buy some pads in return or share products with you, or just the elbow grease needed to do your car?
Re: Anyone have a Porter DA i can try out? (C5inTemecula)
What is your objective? Do you want to buff out some scratches in the clear coat, remove some swril marks or just make the paint shine better? If so I have a professional Black & Decker Buffmaster that has a variable speed control from 0 to 3000. I also have all the pads and compounds and would be glad bring it over sometime. If I have time on May 1st I'll cruise by for Mod Day at your place and let you check it out. :D

Kind of want to get a feel for one - am considering buying one and the only one that sounds safe for black paint, for me at leasr is the DA...
I'm trying to get rid of some slight swirls and some small scratches and then learn to use a DA to get good enough to keep the Vette and the BMW (black too) looking very sharp.
What do you think?

Black as you know is very difficult to keep in pristine condition. A Dual Action is the safest way to not make more swril marks or scratches. It make take more effort to accomplish your goal. It's always best to start out with the lightest cut and go heavyer if needed. How much is the Porter Cable? My B&D set me back $125
We could try the Buffmaster out on a small portion of your car and see...

C5,
Recommend you attend Meguiar's Open Day Detailing Clinic on Saturday 1 May and get all the info you need first hand from the guru of detailing, Mike Phillips. C5,
Here's a couple of direct links to Mike's detailing threads. First shows some of the stuff he did at our clinic. The second shows what he did to restore the finish of a black C5 that I think you'll find enlightening:
Re: Anyone have a Porter DA i can try out? (silfox)
Actually, I just attended that one (since I am considering joining your club) and that lead me to the DA purchase / contemplation. I think I walked away with enough knowldege to begin to address some of the concerns...and I'll certainly hit him up for more info as time goes on.

C5inTemecula,
I used to be obsessed just like you! Now that I have rock chips all over my windshield and paint I'm just happy to have a nice coat of Zaino on her. I tried to keep her as smooth for as long as possible but, it's more fun to drive her than keep her parked in the garage. :steering:
