When i became a BMWCCA member, there was this guide you could get that had people listed in it, and in case of an emergency on your part, what they could do to help you out - as simple as a ride with a gas can to a gas station to overnight lodging, and their mechanical aptitude.
I'm thinking one for the Pacific area would be cool to have - something that you could only have access to if you were in it. Maybe list a phone number, pager, a "three wrenche's out of five" kinda mechanical help rating, some things that could be helpful in case of emergency.
Might be a really good idea; Bikers Against Manslaughter had a similar thing years ago (not sure now) It's a nice idea if it doesn't get abused. That might be tricky to implement. I'll follow this thread and see what others think...

Very interesting concept. However, it would be tough to rate each member and their willingness to participate long term. And from what I read on the previous post, it would fail if people took advantage of the generocity of the person providing the service.
But I'll be interested due to the fact that travelling throughout the westcoast it really might come in handy on so long disalute road in the out country somewhere. You never know you just might have a friendly forum member right around the corner that can lend a helping hand.
I think it's a great idea! Certainly worth a try, since we all have certain resources on our home turf that could (and should) be shared with others in a time of need
Heck, it would even be cool to use as kind of a member locator when you're on a road trip and want to hook up for a bite
I think it's a great idea. It's always better to have a "possible" resolution available, rather than none...or worse...a dealership or mechanic you don't know.
In thinking more about this, it would have to be based on the good will of strangers. We'd expect self rating on this kind of stuff - much like BMW did - but with that said, enthusiasm and a helping hand in time of need may mean more so than a Chevy master mechanic rating.
I think it has merit and, and yes is prone to abuse. But it's also self policing. If we, as the Pacific group hear of it being misused than it's up to us to police it. Again, it's only in the hands of those who are in it - a smaller circle than to just anyone.
