For anyone who didn't know, Angeles Crest is now open from La Canada to Wrightwood
Could we incorporate this road into a SoCal Mtn Cruz? What is it like on a Saturday morning? I am tossing you the ball, Moia. Get the next Mtn cruz up and running. (I'll let you "win" the quiz) hehehehehehehehe. <-----sd pace :D

The answer to all your questions is........MAYBE. There were two sections of the Crest (on either sides of the tunnels) that had rocks all over the road (and some of them were big  )
I think I can work out a route (actually it would be one of xtream1's routes that we ran over Memorial Day weekend) if you San Diego guys don't mind making the trip north again. It would start at Cajon Junction, the intersection of I-15 and Rt 138 north of San Bernardino, tentatively for Aug. 23rd. I'll run the route next Saturday to get exact mileage and find a place for lunch. I'll post next weekend.

Hmm, this is sounding good! :lurk: :auto:
I ordered the car bra last week, so I'll certainly have it in time for August 23rd. I also ordered a bottle of Electron Blue touch up paint to handle some of the chips from the last cruz. :( Considering the fun I had, those chips were well worth it though. :D

To answer a few questions...Yes the proposed road does go thru, Newcome's ranch is a popular spot to stop for bikers but you're better off pushing through to town for food, and last but not least, this road IS REGULARLY patrolled (read radar) and although there may not be much traffic before 10am most of the area is an increased fine area due to past and present motorcycle antics.
It is an enjoyable route in spite of the issues---just have to be aware at all times.

Thanks Paul, I was planning to tell everyone about driving along the Crest. In addition to what Paul said above, you also have a 50-50 chance of getting behind a courteous tourist who will pull over at the next turn-off to let cars behind go by, or a brain-dead one who will just putter along at 30-35 MPH, oblivious to the rest of the world, for miles on end. I ended up behind one of the latter driving an SUV on Sunday, and when we finally reached a passing lane he decided to drive straddling both lanes!
As for lunch, I was thinking of maybe a place in Wrightwood rather than Newcombs. I checked the city's website and found "The Sawmill" and "The Blue Ridge Inn" listed. I plan to scope both of these places out next weekend.
If anybody is familiar with these places, chime in.

I think theres word about a Ford vs Chevy day at LACR up that way on Aug 23rd also...
If you guys do the same run that I did on Mem Day LACR is VERY close at one point on the backside (along the first part that we did shortly before we turned around).
There's a thought, incorporate canyons in the AM and LACR in the afternoon. Kinda rough on the SD crowd's drive home but definitely a funfilled day! :D
What an impression on the mudstains...20 vettes showing up at the same time midday--The Cavalry has arrived! Time to

According to the LACR website, it's a Camaro vs. Mustang shoot-out which is going to be run on Saturday evening (gates open at 4PM, racing 5PM to 10PM). :( that's too late for me.
On the other hand..... if you head east from Cajon Junction (my proposed start/end point), Big Bear Lake is only 50 mi./2 hrs via Rt 138/Rt 18.....there are always possibilities :)
Re: So. Cal Cruisers: Angeles Crest Hwy is Open (jmzvet)
This sounds like the route that Bryan took Joel and me on after the Ontario Hooters meet last month. :steering: I did notice that some of the route was the same as when Paul had a run up there the month earlier......I took up some friends in 300Z's up there, but got lost.....:banghead:
