Going to fly out to San Francisco late next week to do the family vacation thing. No shortage on our list of things to see and do but thought I would check with those of you who know the area. Any diversions for a car nut?
Thanks
Mark
Location: I don't have to show you any stinkin' badges
Re: San Francisco Vacation (MAK)
There is the Blackhawk Car Museum out in Blackhawk, CA about 30 miles east of SF. There is also Roy Brizio's new place, in South San Francisco, who builds hot rods for all sorts of people including celebrities like Reggie Jackson, Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton. In Danville which is also 30 miles east of SF, they have a car show downtown every other week this month, I believe. Welcome.

The BlackHawk Auto Museum is a must for any car nut.
Don't know what kind of car you'll have but if you want some sports car roads you must check out Hwy 1 on the coast. South from S.F. less challenging but great views. North from S.F. offer cliffside switchbacks almost all the way up. Check out Bodega (Hitchcock's The Birds) and Bodega Bay (the Tides Restaurant for lunch). Less traffic than south but imagine both ways will be full of vacationers like you.
Nothing like taking the C5 up the coast in the Fall. Best during the week with less traffic. Damp roads, 2nd gear corners, lots of pucker factor.

Good but not as good as it once was, I think a lot of the cars have moved on.
I was there a month or so back and they didn't have much. IMHO :( :(

Unfortunately I won't have the Z06 to make a run up Hwy 1. A rental family car will have to do. I'll bet you do have fun in your Vette. Thanks for the restaurant tip too.

To bad it's not the weekend of the 25th-27th! ALMS is running at Infineon (Sears Point) raceway that weekend. If you do the US 1 thing (highly recommended!), you could swing through the Napa Valley wine region, maybe Sonoma and stop at the raceway on you way back to the city. I'll actually be there with my C-3 on Saturday. My 17 year old son is taking a Jim Russell racing highway safety course that day. On non-race weekends you can just sign the waiver, drive right in and look around.
