California To Check For ECU Tunes - Starting July 19th, 2021

Watching some YouTube on all these changes and the epa issuing fines to small shops. They are stating any vehicle originally manufactured as a commercial vehicle cannot be changed to a race car off road only at any point of its life.......they are really trying to kill the industry. This is going to be a ridiculous next few years.

But I sure would like to know what they plan on doing with all the used EV Batteries in the future and they bi-products that they are producing -
I'll keep my Vette and my two Deiseal powered vehicles -
Thanks,Matt

I know eventually it will get taken care of, they'll have to do it -(California that is) they'll have to repair their crack pot system - I and my wife have our eyes set on "Wyoming" or "Montana" for retirement!
Andy (A&A), Edelbrock, DiabloSport and others deserve better since they followed every rule that they asked!
Thanks,Matt

I know and man do I feel for the guys involved and I feel for Andy and all the effort that he has put into doing things correctly - it's a cluster of turds that California has made and a big pile of turds too!

I hope Andy has a CARB tune he can send as I did recently pick up HP tuners, but the CARB approval doesn't mention a specific tune. I'll have to check in with him. If anything, I see them failing the car at a station and just sending you to the ref to hash it out. Which is all fine and dandy if you're all legit, but the fact that a biannual smog will turn into a trip to the ref (maybe every time) is really inconvenient and unreasonable. Andy already went through the ridiculous CARB approval process years ago, they better grandfather these guys in instead of revising their approval to include a tune or something along those lines. I'm eyeballing pretty much any other state and I was born/raised here. It's really sad what the state and my specific area has become :/
I too was born and raised here for 50 years and jeez have things got out of hand!
Thanks,Matt

Guys, please keep this on topic. I’m interested in others’ opinions of the state, politics, etc but we can keep those in the appropriate threads.
I’m on this one to learn about getting the ecu’s to pass smog. Thanks

I posted this over on DiabloSport - Question: i3 Intune 8200 (50 State Legal) and New SMOG Law in Ca. as of 7/19/2021-Passed?
https://forum.diablosport.com/viewto...4caeea07cb363e
No one yet to respond, except for Mike, but it did not actually answer the question -
I purchased one and I might take it over to my SMOG guy and do a PRE-TEST again to see if it says "Modified Software" or it is all good to go, which I have a feeling it would not be despite the CARB EO D-770 number.
Take a look at the thread - it's very quiet over there and threads tend to fall dead. But some are helpful.
Thanks,Matt

If the stock tune is not available; A programmed replacement ECU can be found for a relatively inexpensive price, can the tune from this be swapped in for the test and then performance tune returned??? Would this work?
How accessible is the ECU to simply swap the boxes??

Keep in mind that if you have a cam that it will run extremely rough on a stock tune, also keep in mind that if you have different injectors you would need to swap back in your stock ones or the scaling will be entirely off for fueling -
So if you have a stock Vette that is basically tuned you can get a different ECU with a stock tune for your Vette and drop it in, but, you will need someone with a Tech 2 to assist with some of the relearn procedures because unfortunately it's not just plug-n-play
Check some of the other links that are on here, since some of them have what others have had to do or will need to do for the ECU swap -

You can simply swap out ECU's - however there are some relearn procedures that you will have to do in order for it to be complete - this is for both the C5 and C6

It depends on the cam. Mine has a pretty mild cam and ran fine with the stock tune. I only drove it 25 mins like that directly to the tuner after installing it but it threw no code and ran fine.

You probably have a cam with a LSA of 114* or greater. My cam's LSA is 110*, so it is a mess without a tune, LOL!

My cam was pretty mild too but the stock tune was not cutting it for the .600"/.600" - 222/230 116LSA cam in the LS3 it was choppy and there is no way if I pulled in there that I could of passed with it sounding like that, the stock idle point is set way to low for any aftermarket cam on an A6 -
It's ridiculous, it idles at 500-550 RPM
Thanks,Matt

However if you want you can also speak to Edwin at Power House Racing in Palmdale and see what he can do for you, many members are willing to travel for his services - text me if you need his number, if you don't already have it.
