I believe it does not have a carb # therefore technically it should not pass the visual ?

Actually I don't believe any after market CAI has a carb # to pass a CA smog inspection ........................... ?

Okay. I'm not concerned about the visual.

Don't rely on a "friendly" smog station to get you past the visual. Once they get caught, you may be scrambling to find another and they are getting more scarce by the year. If you want a great CAI that is smog-legal, just get a Callaway Honker and be done with it. I simply swap out my Halltech every 2 years, as it takes no more than 20 minutes to do so.

Unless you own a 2002-2004 Z06......

The Callaway Honker CARB # excludes the '02-'04 Z06, I found out the hard way....

Just FYI.....

Some good info above. If you'll be smogging your car, your best option is to find an intake that has an EO number for your specific year and model (http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermk...es/amquery.php).

Second best option is to get one that's easy to remove and replace every two years.

do the zip tie mod., cost approx. $5.00 and takes approx. 15 mins. to change back to pass visual inspection - SEARCH the forum for the details if you are not aware of it already ?

Did you actually get called out on that by a smog shop? I had the Honker and B&B shorties on my '03 C5Z...and no one ever even noticed them enough to ask about an EO# for either.

No....... I was going to buy it, but then read the Executive Order and discovered it wouldn't work for me. I found out I didn't want to have a non CARB compliant part the hard way.....

I did an engine swap back in the early 80's, before the bi-annual inspections. I went to my first bi-annual inspection, with the bad info that I would be grandfathered in because the swap was before the inspections started. I got caught up with the whole referee, make it compliant regardless of cost, flagged for non-CARB compliance nonsense. I am trying to avoid that nightmare again.

I have an Airaid CAI and just passed smog. No problem. Make sure anything you put on is black. Bright colors like the ricer's CAI intake really draw attention.

Depends where you go, how knowledgeable the tech is, etc. My Dad's 06 coupe failed visual at a shop in northern California for the VR intake. Brought it down here and it wasn't even noticed, and the car passed with flying colors.
