Default MGW Shifter - Questionaire

I had an MGW shifter (1st generation) in my car a few years now and have been very happy with the product - I've also installed about 5 in all C6 Z06's - as you know some of them have rattle issues when either under high RPM shifts or in cold weather.

What I would like to know is the configuration of your car:

Year car?
Is it Stock?
Coilovers - brand?
Anyother suspension mods?
Ceramic Tunnel Plate?
When does your's rattle or does it?

I have istalled one in a stock 07 Z06 that doesn't make ANY noise under any conditions - yet in anothers they do under curcuit conditions - the differences are the year of the car and their mods - one is a 07 and the other an 08? I haven't put one on a newer car than 08 so if you have one please lets us know how yours is doing

I recently installed a set of PFADT Feather Light Coilovers on my car and the shifter has started to rattle a very little and only under high RPM's - over 4500 - it hadn't made hardly any noise up to this point. So, why would putting on coilovers effect this? I do have a ceramic tunnel in the car but that doesn't seem to be an issue because it was on the car before the shifter was put in.

It's crazy that every car is so different that some do and some don't rattle! Could it be harmonic balance? The cars body flexing? What the hell over?

I'm just curious and again as mentioned the little noise that does come out of the shifter is totally out weighed by the performance and quality MGW put into it - it is a GREAT product

I just found out that MGW has produced a third generation shifter - George had been working on correcting the noise issue for a long time - very hard chasing it down and correcting it - but they have done it with their newest shifter - 3rd generation - mine's on order!

Hey Joe, You know what I had on my 09 Vert. I had a MGW in my Vette and it never made any noise at all, it just shifted very very well. I think that the MGW shifter is the best shifter on the market.

Joe, you know the story with mine ........

Year: 08Z06
Stock: Basically (Tune and K&N CAI)
Coilovers: First Mod (Pfadts)
MGW Shifter: Second Mod (Rattle since day one, with Z06 Box and C6 Box)
Ceramic Tunnel Plate: Last Mod, still shaking.......
Mileage: 17K+
Still Rattle: every time I drive it

Personally I love the product and feel so it is not going anywhere. Plus you just open the windows and turn the stereo up!

So far no rattles unless the leaf springs are out .........

Why would that matter? There's 28,000 on it - I didn't buy it to park it It's to much fun to !

It sounds like the only rattles are coming from suspension modied cars and seems only on the C6 Z06's that have the shifter - could it be the Z06 frame?

I tried all kinds of lubricants and even made and placed a rubber gasket between the frame and shifter box - still some rattle - no big deal - as mentioned just curious!

None of the cars have the same rattles or when and how frequent they happen - makes no sense!

You can try swapping in a new shifter box that has the rubber insulated bushing mounts vs. the solid mounts. GM did this in 2010 I believe...they gave the Z06 the same box that came in the base C6 to alleviate the rattles.

This helped cure the rattle with my Callaway shifter in my 07 Z... I know not the same brand, but seems to be a cure for some with the 'rattles' no matter the aftermarket brand...

I installed mine in Feb of 2009. It's the first one shipped in that (new) generation of MGW shifter for the C5. 30%. Even after 35K miles of driving on it, it still shifts almost like new. I still give it

Year car? 2004 Z06 (91K on it)
Is it Stock? Yes, except for Vararam.
Coilovers - brand? Stock suspension
Anyother suspension mods? None
Ceramic Tunnel Plate? None
When does your's rattle or does it? 4K to WOT under driving conditions (load). Has been since new.

I know that they have been working on a new shifter - so - you might just have one of the new ones I haven't seen it yet - just went to MGW website and you do have their newest - 3rd gen - the one pictured is second gen - looks like I'll be buying a new one and selling my first gen shifter - it's such a low cost mod that you can't go wrong! Just ordered the new one - MGW has a trade in program that cuts the cost to $150.00 - just return my 1st gen for a 3rd gen shifter!

I think I installed mine 3 years ago this week! so I don't know what generation it was by then but it definitely wasn't the first. I've had zero issues or vibration and have driven it in track conditions for many, many miles. The car has a total of 30,000 miles. Probably 2/3 to 3/4 of them with the shifter. Mods are in my sig but I have Pfadt coilovers and a coated tunnel plate.
