Laughlin/Hoover Dam overnight run info
Wow, as spring gets closer and so. cal keeps having this awesome weather, there is apparently a need for a quickie run. So here it is:
Overnight trip to Laughlin, Nevada to include a trip/tour of Hoover Dam and for those who do not wish to do a dam tour, a side trip. Everyone will participate in the drive over the new Hoover Dam and for those who wish to do a dam tour, i will post that info. THIS TRIP IS IN ADDITION TO OUR GRAND CANYON TRIP IN APRIL!
When: March 5th and 6th
Lodging: to be determined, will be checking for any group rates but need an idea of how many might be interested.
Side note: Nascar is in Las Vegas March 6th, so if you are a nascar enthusiast then take note. For those of us that live in the high country, this trip will be subject to potential weather/road issues. We'll keep our fingers crossed and hope for good weather!

Hi Tom and Patti, welcome to the corvette forum and welcome to our Laughlin/Hoover Dam trip. Stay tuned here for the latest info and hotel info. If we can hit 10 people that want to go which hopefully wont be a problem then we'll get working on the hotel and runs. If you have any questions, feel free to send me a p.m. and i will get back to you asap.

This run is a go, wether there are 2 couples or 20 couples. The couples that have signed up are all great people, which would make this run a lot of fun! I will say this, check to make sure your shoes match before you leave the house!
The only issue would be the weather, if it looks like rain (or snow to you & Jim!) then lets cancel. On our last trip to Laughlin, we stayed @ the Tropicana, they are very reasonable, with very comfortable beds, and a shower stall you can stand up in! The only issue is no coffee makers in the room, so you have to go down into the casino area to buy coffee.
Hopefully Tom has put a couple miles on his Vert, and maybe Rons wife will bring those red velvet cupcakes!

Remember this run is open to all corvettes, any years regardless of where you live or what club you are in. Surely there are more than just a handful that want to get out on the open road, do some sightseeing, maybe toss the dice or try their odds with the one armed bandits or tables. Chime in! No costs other than your normal traveling expenses!

not sure how we'd go about that jim but love the idea. can you make some calls and maybe work on that? if nps would shut the bridge for 5 minutes we could make that happen

There is a pedestrian walkway on the north side of the bridge which provides outstanding views of the dam and a good place to take pictures of the cars on the bridge.

remember this is the NEW bridge, not the old one. i dont know if there is a walkway or not, jim does your camera have a timer? you'd need a mighty big stick i'm thinkin. however if we got the road closed for a few minutes with the camera set up on a timer maybe we could pull it off? or is there a turnout somewhere that we could set the cars up for a pic with the bridge in view behind the cars? just a thought.

Doug,
Take a look here: www.hooverdambypass.org
Its about 900 feet above the river, so thats a pretty big stick. I suggest attaching a red flag on each end of that stick on your way to the bridge.
Maybe some duct tape and the camera timer, or have Kent go and he can video the damn drive!
