Greetings to one and all! My name is Gary and I am a relative new-comer to this and a few other forums. Several of us in so cal have been discussing our mutual desire of putting together a drag racing event in the same general format that John Mackey and his buds have done at the East Coast Corvette Challenge.

While we were at Pomona this week-end for the Super Chevy Show, we passed out flyers to owners of ALL models and configurations of vettes.
Many drag racers smiled when they read the flyer and immediately asked when we were having our first event.

The answer should be coming in the next couple of weeks. Probably the first WCCC will be here in so cal at Carlsbad, LACR, or possibly Fontana. All of these are 1/4 mile tracks.

This event is for drag racers and it doesn't matter if you are "bone or blown"!
We will work with first time racers and hopefully have some fun bracket, heads-up and grudge matches.

We don't really care how many folks show up. We already have a half-dozen drivers who have committed to the first event. That is enough for us to go ahead with this. The first few events will be modest while we try to iron out the inevitable kinks and maximize fun for those who attend.

Since we are just beginning the planning stages, I/we would very much welcome your ideas, opinions, suggestions, constructive criticisms and positive comments about this event. If you have experience in any aspect of putting on an event like this, we are eager to learn. We want this to be a quality experience for everyone and mostly...we just want to celebrate the greatest production car in the world and have LOTS of fun meeting and racing fellow vette owners.

Hi John - more good news. We've got about six of us now and several others have called me who were at Pomona this week-end. About ten or eleven of us who want to do this. Even if only half show up, we are a "go"! :yesnod:

The first event will likely be at Carlsbad. I am waiting to hear from Beach Bum (who I met at Pomona this week-end. Out of a couple hundred cars, he was just sittin' in the lane right next to me. I view this as a very good sign! :D

We introduced ourselves and after a couple of minutes I could see why you wanted us to meet. Todd is going to oversee the actual races for us. He knows SO MANY racing folks here in California and will be an incredible asset.

Did you see other post with some questions? Just let me know what you think about some of the details.

Hi Gary, you have some real enthusium about this gig! I'm not into regular drag racing, but I do like an occasional effort to improve my times. I've only made two passes with the new setup and do need to see what this beast can really do!! I actually drove my car for the first time in over two months today. It was only around the conner to the body shop. My foot is still healing from a bad break. I'm having the RK sport hood put on.

Party at our place after? We're only a couple of miles from the track, in La Costa.... Plenty of space, and Stone Brewing's just a hop & skip away for a keg!

JB - you're in bud! I'll let you know via this and e-mail (if you like) when we are having our first event. Doesnt' matter if you've raced none, once or twice, or full-time. This event is primarily for FUN.

From the looks of your sig, you have one fine couple. I hope you'll join us on the front end of this - should be a good time for everyone.

Steve - many thanks for the offer. I am not familiar with the area: where is
Stone Brewings? Hope they have good steaks 'cause I always like to celebrate with a nice t-bone or prime rib (sorry, not a nuts and twigs kind've a guy)! :D Do you know some folks who might be interested? If so, just pass the word on. And, might you be interested in being one of our founding sponsors? If so, please let me know. It would be nice if we could have some t-shirts, trophies, and maybe get a small web-site going?

Speaking of which, anybody know of any graphic artisits who might be able to design a logo for us?

Gary - Stone Brewing is in San Marcos - but it's a full working brewery - no restaurant. If we decide to do this, I can get a keg from Stone and people can bring whatever they want to throw on the grill here at the house - there's a couple of Von's on the way over here from the track. We've also got a ton of soft drinks left over from a party that never made it off the ground a couple of weeks ago...

Any ideas for sponsors? graphics help? trophies?

Todd (Beach Bum) is going to run the races. We are LUCKY to have him!

As soon as he gets back to me I will have a date for us.

I'm always interested in seeing just how much abuse my '98 can take. I've never drag raced, but if someone can provide a bit of informal instruction at the event for beginners like me, we might have a deal. I think other beginners around SoCal might be interested, also. This is similar to what the road track folks do for novices at their events. And who can turn down beer at chez VetteNet.

I have sent a number of you our first group e-mail. Please let me know if you didn't get it.

Could some of you let me know, either here on this thread or via e-mail, what you might be able to contribute in terms of time and skills.

e.g. Allan: you're an attorney and we'll probably need someone to help us with liability waivers and such. That would be a great help.

John knows some graphics folks who might be able to help us out with a logo.

Anybody here more literate around computers and web-page design than me?

As per John Mackey, I will contact redgar over the week-end, when I might even get some rest!

Please be thinking about what talents and skills you might be able to contribute. On behalf of my wife and three kids, I thank you! :D

As well, I can contact the Corvette Owners Club here, I am certain many will like to come out to race.

Also, I have a suggestion:
Why not have a real announcer, with some energy, be the MC if you will.
It seems they do not ever have anything to talk about there. Just barely can hear the times muttered at best....
We could really use a change, some excitement.
I can help organize the information packets for this, as the drivers sign up.
That will give the new announce something to excite the crowd.
As well, I can help with the announcer, I may have someone.
What do you think? If we are going to do it, lets have some fun.!
