Default got a letter today from the CHP!!!!!

came home and found I had a letter from the CHP.... now im thinking.... this cant be good....

so, holding my breath, i opened it.... and I got a letter and it stated that there was a red corvette, license plate XXX was going 50-55 in a 45 zone on 25th street between Ave. J and lancaster blv.... about 1/2 mile, now we do not know who was driving, but we would like to reach out at this time and remind people of highway safety, and that my number is going to go down in there data base and possibly warrant further investigation if future occurrences.......

WHAT THE????? i dont know if i should celebrate or worry around every CHP i see????

I have a question on this topic. If a laser or hand held radar is used I thought the speed is captured by the signal sent out and the time measured in the return signal. As that time shortens as the vehicle approaches the closing rate determines the speed. Now I thought this required both the vehicles to be on the same plane being directly in front or back of the radar unit. If someone is on an overpass or in a plane and they are using either one of these and looking down at some angle dosen't this make the reading different as the closing rate would be altered?

yes, you are correct, but the error is in our favor, so it kind of nullifies any court argument...and at distance the vectors are not that radical..

It's called the cosine error because the recorded speed is the actual speed multiplied by the cosine of the angle between the cars direction and angle to the lidar or radar. Applies to the overpass situation or an officer off the side of a road.

I'm laughing Paul, when did you receive that letter. Maybe i sent it out as i commanded that area but i left there and went to another station in Jan. 06. If you make the museum run, i'll give you the scoop on that.

It's ALL about money. And it's only going to get worse until California citizens decide to wise up about why this state is beyond bankrupt and our quality of life is being slowly eroded away. Government programs that give free everything to every person that makes it to our state, without regard to the taxes they pay, sounds all fine and dandy till it affects the rest of us.

"Sir, we're totally bankrupt. What should we do?”

“Well, how did we get here? I mean, our great state offers free Government programs and services to everyone, regardless of them actually paying in to the system. Any suggestions?”

“I have an idea... let's just raise taxes on people and businesses who actually DO earn money! Spread the wealth around!”

“Great idea! Wait, where’s everyone going? Come back! Crap. People and businesses that pay taxes are leaving at record numbers, while other 'people' who aren't paying taxes are 'migrating' here to take advantage of the free handouts our state not only offers but is also willing to sacrifice citizen quality of life for. And they’re reproducing at an alarming rate! What are we going to do now?”

“Hey I have an idea, let's raise taxes more!”

“Great idea! Wait, that didn't close the gap.”

“Let's just start citing everyone, for every possible thing written in law, regardless of the law’s original intent (safety). We have revenue streams all over the place just waiting to be tapped. The citizens won’t mind, because we’re doing it for the benefit of everyone! That way, anyone who makes it to California can take advantage of all the Government services and programs we offer.”

“Great idea! Wait, that didn't close the gap.”

“Crap. Well, cite them more! Raise the fees for infractions. Create new laws for more citations. But make sure you tell them it’s for ‘safety’. Make the fees for the new infractions completely astronomical! Also, double vehicle registration fees. No one will mind. And if all of that doesn't work, legalize narcotics so we can tax it too. Oh, and don’t forget to raise taxes on everything else some more.”

“But sir, the few tax payers and businesses that actually do stay here will hate the Government and law enforcement. Public approval ratings will drop.”

“So what? What are they going to do? Vote us out? This is the most liberal state in the country. It’s a self perpetuating dream. We can justify anything we want and call it being ‘progressive’. Oh, and tell them we don’t have a choice in the matter and that it’s something we HAVE to do because of our budget situation. You know… because we’re bankrupt. But whatever you do, don’t tell them why we're in this position. Do it little by little, year after year, under the radar so they slowly ease in to it. Let the next guy deal with it. That way, he can say he 'inherited' the problem. C'mon... if the citizens were smart enough to figure it out, they would have done something by now.”

Don’t think it will happen? Just wait. Did you ever think things would get this bad? Unless we act now, some day in the near future you’re going to walk across the street to buy an 8 dollar cup of coffee, on an early morning without another person in sight, and an LEO will hand you a 500 dollar citation for jaywalking. You know… for your “safety” (i.e.: the state is in dire straights and is going to F everyone over as much as they're willing to tolerate). And don’t blame the LEO who wrote the citation. He's a good guy right? I mean, he had no CHOICE in the matter! He HAD to protect the “peace”. He’s just doing his job: protecting and serving YOU!

FYI

This morning on the way to work on Hwy 74/I-215 my radar detector went nutz but it was displaying the K band (not Ka Band). Normally I ignore K band because they are alarms, doors and speed boards etc. but, today it was marking K6 (scale 1-9) and I slowed down. Sure enough it was a Police car with a K band gun. I had my RX-65 for 6 years and this was the first time I saw a police car with K band.

Taking everything into consideration- if we had only to pick one radar detector to take with us on our trip, it would be the Beltronics RX65 Pro.

If laser was our primary concern, then we would opt for either the Valentine V1 or the Escort 8500 X50.

I used to sale these things at one time.... I have had 20 different Bell units, 2 escorts and now the Valentine one... it is in EVERY way the best on the market...

And it is true... once you have the arrows, you will never go back...

only the V1 can tell you if the radar is coming from the back, front or sides..low low low false alarms, and great sensitivity... I pick them up way before I can even see them....

I think you would be hard pressed to find someone that has a V1 that would ever go to any other unit,,..

This is a Quote about the V1 from the url mentioned above *UPDATE: 19 NOV 05 We have now lived with an updated version (v3.825) for several months and believe that despite some small glitches in the "J" programming, that this detector has become our new reference."

Reference..... by what all other detectors are judged by...V1 on top....

And lazar is a BIG thing..

I got a question for all, what is the speed limit. Ever tried to drive lets say 65, there's a car up your butt all the way. I'm usually at about 70-75 and that's about the flow of traffic in a 65 zone, unless the traffic is heavy. I fell a lot better when what I call, a bait car passes me, I wish him well.
