Just published in Autoweek - pretty accurate mag - that GM has cancelled the mid-engined C7 that was do out in 2014-15 - this is do to economics - DUH!
They say that the C6 production will last 12 years - 2005 = 2017 which = BORING!
The C7 would have had a dual clutch gearbox what was being developed by Saab fitted to a supercharged V6 or V8
They at GM are also saying that the C6 may be the last Corvette - they have no development funds left after the Government raped them - sorry - realined / re-constructed them- whatever they did!

This isn't really that unusual in Corvette history. The C3 ran for about 15 years, and the C4 for about 13 years.
C6 is a great car. It doesn't really need much in the way of improvement. Maybe I'll be able to buy one and have the current model sometime before 2017.
.... that SUCKS!... I promised my older son that I would give him Baby when he gets his BS in 4 years, I though the C7 would be here for sure by then.... now what am I going to do!!!... AAHHH

your goin give it to him I'll sell you my Z about that time. You should be so lucky
Well a couple thoughts on this. First off these types of rumors start making the rounds every time the public starts getting the itching for a new Vette. The C4 was rumored to be the last and the C5 was never going to exist. Well that was going on 14 years ago and here we are once again and 2 generations later. Secondly, I would dang near guarantee that when/if the C7 comes about, it will NOT be a mid-engine design. Too much is compromised for the layout. The biggest being storage capacity, ala Ford GT and Ferrari F430. One thing the majority of Corvette owners like about the vehicle is being able to have a world class sportscar and being able to pack 2 weeks worth of luggage in it and hit the road. The current platform is perfectly balanced so no need to change it. I talked to Doug Fehan at the LBGP and he said the new car is in the works and it will basically be a evolution of the C6 and not Revolutionary like the jump from C4 to C5. That being said Corvette is here to stay.

Maybe in the 80's there was a rumor about the Corvette going away but the C5 was suppose to come out in 1993! Issues with the economy and development money stalled it. Now I grant you it probley would've had a Lt1 in 1993 but that was the plan.
Corvette might be here to stay but GM is questionable unless the government keeps throwing money at it! Still not profitable. Killed stuff that could set it apart from the others Ie. G8 and the Cts V is rumored to be on it's way out also. Same dumb decisions out of the new management.

O man.... guess I could slow down for a while if I got the old Z....but I really did not want another reinvention for the C4 body again, like the C5&6.....the C7 had curves once again, like the C3.....like a beautiful woman
