Coming home today the Vette shut down on the freeway , I had just enough momentum to pull over to the right shoulder. Called Joe C whoo was a couple miles ahead of me and he came back to help. The emergency lane was fairly narrow and almost got tagged by some guy ina little white ricer, he then veered left into the middle lade (tires smoking) and luckily regained control. I called AAA then CHP who showed up and sat behind me with lights flashing til AAA got there. It seemed I was out of gas even though the gauge said a little over a quarter tank left. They put 2 gal. in and after a couple tries the car started. CHP bocked the lane to give Joe and I time to get back on the fwy. and a quarter mile down the road she died again I got it started again after 3 attempts and got off at the next exit.
Told the CHP officer I'd take surface streets home and took off, all the while getting Active Handling, and check engine warnings. Got home shut her down and it would not start again unless I pressed the pedal to the floor then turned the key. I was able to do that a couple time after which even that didn't work. I pulled codes, checked voltages, ground wires, and the best I can guess is the fuel pump may have died.
Happy to hear that you guys are OK, and the ricer didn't lose it!
As for the Vette, I agree that the fuel pump/gauge sender could have died, by why the active handling code? Yeah, maybe the fuel filter/regulator is plugged up, have you ever replaced it?
I have the 03 factory service manuals if that would help, you are welcome to use them.
Went out this morning and she started right up, ran just fine. I let it run for about 5 min. shut it down and it started up just fine again, no codes. Good power everything seemed normal til I shut down and tried to start again the service traction control came up. I pulled it out of the garage and started checking wiring, ground points, etc. She would not start. I turned the key to "on" I could hear the fuel pump then after a few seconds started the car right up. Did that a couple times (I had to let it sit in the "on" position for a few seconds each time). I cleaned the throttle body and carefully cleaned the air sensor & screen. She started right up. shut it down then it didn't want to start again. I let it sit for 5 min. then she started but I again got every message in the book, active handling, security, check engine light, etc.
Sooo I'll be calling Lake Chev. in the morning
With all those codes being thrown is it possible you have an electrical problem? I can't see why you'd throw some of those codes if it was just fuel/fuel pump related.
Fred, strange as it sounds It might be the battery, Seen a lot of posts about intermittant probs. Codes etc. & many times its the battery or a bad ground. Good luck. Dennis
Good luck with this. I know how an issue like this can be very frustrating. Gotta love this forum with so much experience and expertise, someone will come up with the answer to your problem.
