Default LEO job // hiring in SoCal ...

Hey all ... I don't usually post in the regional section, but I got info with a utility bill about the city of Signal Hill taking applications for the position of "police recruit" and thought some people here might be looking for work ... the pay and bennies seem pretty decent, and Signal Hill isn't exactly the OK Corral when it comes to LEO work. Small city, supportive residents, less crime than there used to be. If you're not familiar with Signal Hill, it's a small city of its own that lies within the boundaries of the city of Long Beach.

Anyhoo, here's a LINK to info about the public safety fair on Nov. 15, and these are bennies listed on the thing I got in the mail:
  • $4,649 per month for recruits
  • $4,882-$6,230 per month for officers
  • 12 vacation days and 12 sick days annually
  • 11 paid holidays and 28 personal holiday hours
  • City paid participation in PERS (3% at 50) -- pension plan
  • Medical up to $885 per month and dental benefits
  • Retiree health benefits
  • Life insurance policy
  • Short- and long-term disability plans
  • Deferred compensation plan
  • Flexible benefits program
  • Tuition reimbursement program
  • 5.4% added monthly pay for senior officer, investigations and traffic
  • 5% field officer training differential while training
  • Patrol officers receive half-hour briefing OT each shift (7 hours per month paid at time and a half)
  • 12-hour shift, allowing three and four days off per week
  • $925 annual uniform allowance for patrol officers.

"Call 562-989-7385 to request an application packet for police recruit or police officer."

Anyway, I don't know anything more than that, but it seemed like good benefits and great hours, and I figured that some folks might be looking for work these days.

Good luck to anyone who checks it out!

If i wasnt in process for the Sheriffs Dept I would be all for it. But I will keep it as an option. Signal Hill is right next to Long Beach, dont know if much action happens around those parts. Besides all the traffic violators.

Signal Hill in general is a nice little city. It does have some seedy areas (on the borders of LB) as do all towns big or small. Heres a picture that overlooks LB

I used to live only a few streets over from where you took that picture! I know exactly where that is!!

And yes, as long as you stay away from the Megan's Law part of town, it's a good place. And the cops are very nice, in my experience, and not shot at a lot.

Now, um, can I have your car? I'd take good care of it, I promise!!

Sheriffs Dept would be much better (been doing it for over 10 years now). 6K and change a month from Signal Hill is on the low side as well.
