Default Thermostat Thread

Hey guys, that thermostat thread was annoying. What was annoying is how one gu said that the thermo topic can get somepeople's "blood boiling". WTF. Seriously, how childish are you. If you dont wanna give someone TECHNICAL advice please dont respond. People here comment too many personal opinions, many which are not based on fact. There are a lot of smart guys here who have helped me in the past but some Vette freaks are too much. If somethings been discussed a million times, like most topics, just post a past thread for the guy, dont get pissed and tell him to do a search. Some guys are newbies and can use our help. So, cmon guys, lets leave some of that sarcasm off the forum. For example on guy said,"why even mess with your car?". Cause he wants to! People have modded there vettes since their begining. And Duke of Earl, a 160 thermo killed 3 motors of yours!? I dont know man. You might want to look at other causes. A Vette is just a Vette. Lets stop sending oil samples to GM or doing math calculations on thermodynamic heat loss and crap like that. Come down to earth people.

You should reread and get your facts straight before you post. I did not say it killed three motors. Try again.

I hear ya; I was just called a liar for the first time in my professional career and for that privilege I paid $750 with two days of LA traffic to drive to Oxnard and no rebuttal.

I am ready to continue the debate on thermostats and as before I will share factual, tested data if I have it.

BTW, I used to not believe that a 160 degree stat in a C6 did much but, rather than let my "beliefs or ego" get in the way, I tested them.

I was wrong - the 160 stat maintained the operating temps more effectively in traffic situations and pleasantly helped in the staging lanes as well.

In the heat we have here in SoCal the 160 deg stat will be of benefit - it won't make a car running 220 deg drop to 190 deg but it will allow for the temps to modulate in a more favorable zone.

Short trips and start ups are not affected as the PCM goes open loop by 140 deg - if your car has decent O2's and is decently calibrated there will not be any "rich conditions" nor is there any scheme to "lean out" the mixture.
