First, I'd like to thank the guys at CalSpeed for hosting and organizing the event. The burgers were pretty good. Although I must confess, being from K.C., I almost left when I saw KC Masterpiece on the table. There was still plenty of food when we left, so if there were shortages later on, I had no hand in it.
Like everyone else, I was disappointed to get the call saying the track rental was delayed. On the other hand, I was glad that I wasn't the poor b*st*rd that had to make the calls... damn glad he called, because I wouldn't have checked CF before going to the track.
The wife, the Hippie, and I drove down from Burbank in two cars Saturday morning. The seats were still covered with ice from the wash the night before. No problem, because my *ss heat melted the ice and my pants no longer looked like I had an accident by the time we arrived in Bakersfield.
Our car being a bit older than many of the cars on CF, takes a bit of work to get ready for a road trip (granted Bakersfield is only 110 miles or so from our place).
Lubed all 18 grease fittings in the front suspension
Changed the oil and used my second to last bottle of EOS (ran all over town looking for CI diesel oil first)
Topped the radiator
Changed the plugs
Ran new wires
Installed a new air filter element
Flushed the trans
Drained and re-filled the rear
Checked the brake fluid
Set all 4 tire pressures
Lashed the valves (a side benefit of have a solid lifter cam)
Swapped back to my hi-po carb (it gave up the ghost at LVMS during the Anti-Tour), and added a new float and accelerator pump diaphragm
... first I had to lap the needle and seat, because it had a nick that was catching
All said, the prep wasn't too bad, relatively speaking... I once pulled the engine from my truck and put it in the Vette the weekend before the Anti-Tour.
