TicketBait, The WCCC events are a blast. If you haven't been to one I would recommend it. They were talking about maybe doing it again in July.
Paul, the engine still isn't quite right. We thrashed to get the car running for the Car Craft Anti-Tour (after pulling the engine from my truck and putting it in the Vette). The car made it to Las Vegas and back, but not without a little drama.
I think the valvetrain issues are fixed, but I'm still not convinced the cam isn't slowly going flat. Immediately afeter cam break-in, while I was hot lashing the valves, the #8 intake rocker stud broke. Then shortly after while test driving the car, the number 4 intake rocker stud broke. I replaced all the Elgin roller tip rockers with a set of Comp Cam rollertips off my other engine, and haven't broken a stud since. In the back of my head I'm concerned that the binding that broke the rocker studs may have caused damage to the cam.
While on the Anti-Tour, several valves worked loose during the drive and at the strip. I had to relash them before driving back to L.A. Once back in L.A. I had to relash the valves again. I still had a clatter in the valvetrain. I took the car to Jennings Dyno Tune, to let them have a shot at it. They found 3 cracked valvespring retainers. I was charged for new retainers when I had the heads done, but apparently the guy re-used the stock retainers.
The rockers are still a little noisier than I'd like, and I am chasing a miss at steady state cruise. The car's not pulling for crap, nor is it MPHing very well. When I watch the rocker arms, they all seem to be going up and down OK. The engine will be coming back out of the Vette soon, and I will pull the intake and inspect the cam more closely at that time.
I saw 14.7 on the one C-4. Is that what stock C-4s run out there?
For a TPI, yes. With a DA of 5500 thats not really bad. Also why you see slow times for C5s, C6s, etc.

Ron, I don't know... the car just isn't performing. Other than affecting idle, I don't think the stock converter is hurting, because the tires will smoke and the back end will walk if I try to leave hard. The stock intake isn't ideal, but I've seen people MPH better than I currently am with it. These heads were on the 59, prior to being ported; they picked up 30 CFM, but the friggin POS still can't match the MPH of the 59. The car should MPH better than it does... it's just got no stones.
I need to have some mechanical advance taken out of the distributor, so I can run more initial, which will help the idle, which should make it easier to launch. There is a miss at steady state cruise that ain't helping, and the rocker noise isn't going away.
I think it's time to pull the intake and inspect all the lifters. If they pass muster, then maybe I'll swap intakes. The Torker would be nice, but would have to be changed again before the engine goes back in the truck. I'd love to run the Z28 intake or a RPM, but they won't fit under the 62's hood.
To be honest, a big part of me wants to slap the stroked 327 in there with a stall converter and see if I can't get a 12 sec pass at LACR before it closes. Feel like helpin out with an engine swap?
Ron, no need to worry about the balancer installer. It broke while you were helping out. I understand what you mean about the Z. I need to get the 62 squared away, so I can get back to the Chevelle. I want to be done with it before the summer is over.
Edit: Just got off the phone with Harold. The cam is in que to be ground this week. He said the grinder had to finish a batch of Viper cams, then my cam was in line with the next batch of custom cams. If All goes well, I might drop the 327 the weekend of 6/23.
