Default California crackdown on modified cars.....

http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/05/576.asp

This is funny:
"San Diego officers come to train other departments how to look out for what they believe to be tell-tale signs of illegal modification such as window tinting, large spoilers, extra gauges or racing stickers."

Training for Large Spoilers and Racing Stickers.
Just look at the back of that thing.

Hope the Z06 spoiler doesn't fall in that category.

and here I thought it was emissions, ground clearance, and non DOT gear that made things "not legal". Spotting a ricer should be easy, but I'd probably be training more on the details, rather than the obvious.

I was rolling down by redondo beach last night and there was one of those like constructions signs up that said RBPD ticketing for loud muffler. So me and my LG pros made a u turn and took another route. They don't have anything better to do then setup a stop for loud mufflers?? Come on.

This is great... about the 3rd someone has brought this up...

It's for ricers... Vettes have nothing to worry about... We are not the intended recipient's of this "attention"

....It was started to discourage ricersfrom illegal street racing events... Just to give Police the "probable cause" to stop, check and impound cars they catch leaving illegal street races. And if you're driving a Vette and get caught at one of these events... you deserve to give up your car and walk....

We now return you to your normal driving habits ... Everyone just breathe...

...Drive it like you stole it!....

I really meant it more as a joke.

Ricers beware.

"In practice, "excessive exhaust noise" tickets are the most common violation. California law does not require police to measure sound levels objectively. Instead, according to the California Highway Patrol, the "citation is based on officer's judgment."

True..except you can take that ticket to a BAR station and have your vehicle tested...DMV code allows 95db for performance exhaust...
if you pass..the ticket is voided....if it sounds like this, you are in deep caca..

Bring 'em over here and I'll tell you how loud they are. I do noise studies for a living and have monitoring equipment.

Default crack down

Major problem. Its because of those ricers, and the fart can mufflers. They street race and abuse the safety of others. My shift ends late a night and see alot of deadly wrecks on the freeway. The odds are alot of the ricer cars involved. The crack down on the citations are for the street racers who meet up and race. I would not worry about getting stopped if your car has mods and your driving cool. Take it to the track.
