Default san simeon to las vegas

Heading down to San Simeon the first week of May and then heading to Vegas. All of the computer map programs say to take CA-46 to I-5 to Bakersfield, CA-58 to I-15, to Vegas. I know that around there the driving instructions that you get off of the computer are usually wrong, so just wondering if anyone had a better route?

All help appreciated.

The question is, do you want to enjoy the drive or just arrive in the least amount of time? There is a local group here in the bay area that does a ralley using that route and it goes up to Ridgecrest and through Death Valley, good twisties! What the computer says will get you there quicker than anything else I can think of. Just mostly freeway.

When we go, we drive thru Death Valley. Hardly any traffic and you can open it up!!!! That is where I got my name - Blubyu178 - we made it up to 178 right outside of Ballarat. The only problem that you may run into is people flocking to DV to see the spring flowers bloom. The flowers are starting to bloom here but I dont know what it is like there. Locals dont really go out there during that time. The other route is to go thru Barstow and hit traffic. All in all have a great time and enjoy no matter what!!!!
