My '02 is at Moreno Valley Chevy tonight getting its new Pilot Sports on, and I asked my wrench to decarb the motor while he was at it - he said our beloved California doesn't allow GM Top Engine Cleaner (which is what the General recommends for all injected small blocks).
Any idea what we can use here in the Republik? Or do we drive to AZ for the stuff and do it at home?
Sea Foam, should be available at Napa Auto Parts. Put it in through the brake booster. Do it early in the morning in the middle of nowhere. You'll be doing the German smoke screen thing for a while.
Your dealer is telling an untruth. You can buy it from their parts dept. (well, maybe not your dealer's parts dept, but all the others) Take a look at where the guy is from that wrote the tech tips article.
When I was in San Diego last year, I couldn't get it at the dealership either. Supposedly they were previously allowed to carry the small spray bottles, but now they're weren't even allowed to sell those either. As already mentioned, you can buy SeaFoam from Napa, but if any of y'all want, I can pick up the GM stuff here in Albuquerque, and bring it with me when I move back to SoCal this weekend. Just let me know. I'll probably bring some anyway, but it'll be my personal supply unless anyone asks for more.
With my C5, I use a long fuel line to run from the hose behind the throttle body on the passenger side, and then to the bottle. Real easy to do. If you're close enough to Spring Valley, I'll be happy to give you a hand...preferably at night when the smoke isn't all that visible...
