Default Moving to Florida's Treasure Coast, Need info

I posted here a while ago when I thought that I would be moving to the Deer Field Beach/Boca Raton area but my company has decided that they what me at our office in Hobe Sound.

When I posted before I got some really good information and I am hopping that some of you can help me with more of the same. We are headed out to take a look around in a few weeks and I could use some insight on the area to help prepare.

As I said I would be working in Hobe sound and would like to live within 30 minutes max of work. What are the desirable areas? People have told me to look in St. Lucie West for the best deals but, is it a nice area or is it one of those instances where you get what you pay for. Looking on-line I found a home that my wife and I like in Palm City but it is a little pricier than other areas. What is it that makes that city (or is it Martin County in general) more expensive. Is there anything I should watch out for or avoid? Are there any definite must haves when looking for a home in South East Florida (i.e. I have been told to not even consider wood frame construction, concrete is a must have)?

Any info would be greatly appreciated?

I assume you're moving here soon (which is our off season) so my best advice would be to rent a nice condo (rates should be very attractive soon) for 6 months, put your furniture into air conditioned storage, and look around to see what YOU like. Florida real estate can be complex and being a little nosey will probably pay dividends.
Good luck and hope you like TStorms!!

Thanks for the advice. I would prefer to do that myself, I think that is very sound advice, but there are two things standing in my way. One, my wife is the type of person that needs to know exactly where she is going before she leaves and two the lead time on new home is about a year from the deposit date so I kind of need to get in line sooner than later. None the less, if i take the job I will likely be spending a lot of time traveling out there to start the job before the move is final. That should give me a few opportunities to get better familiar.

Any more help from anyone would be appreciated!
