Default NCRS Winter Regional move to Lakeland Sun n Fun location.

Those of you who attend the Winter Regional know just how hard it has become to accommodate the people/judging/swap meet at the Oldtown location. This property has been in a Chapter 11 situation for several years and we were advised they would probably lose use of the adjacent field. Our Committee has been looking for an alternate location for several years but nothing really had what we wanted in the way facilities. As many of you know we have moved the event 3 previous times and each time we were able to make the meet better than before so we have had real challenge before us. Last week we found what we believe will be our future home and started the process of getting the NCRS Boards blessing to affect the move. What we did not expect was the word would get out so soon. I have decided that rather than have all kinds of misinformation floating around I would start an official thread that we will update when needed. The below is Ariel photos of the whole facility and the area we are planning on using for the event.

The area is where the Sun n Fun Flyin takes place every Spring and hosts 150,000 200,000 people so they are familiar
with crowds and event support. To me personally it is like a clean sheet of paper that I can use to take advantage of the past 25 years of putting on the Winter Regional. Hopefully it will become known as the NCRS SunnFunnAircraftnCorvette Winter Regional. And yes you can fly in and park your plane within 100 yards of the event. Any of you have a vintage aircraft we can use for static display picture opportunities?

I will continue to post updates on this thread as well as the NCRS forum.

Glad to hear, your moving to better place, but your links don't work, please fix.

Will the swap meet, be up there also or is it staying at the present locations.

Glad to hear about the move, I absolutley hate Oldtown. Sounds like it will be like the old Cypress Gardens days.

Having gone to the Sun n Fun Fly-In and the Lake Mirror Classic Car Show for many years, both of which take place in Lakeland you could not have picked a better location or city to host your event. Good luck!

Good news. A lot easier for me to go to Lakeland than Kissimmee. Plus the venue will offer a lot more space.

Damn now I have to drive an additional 35 miles. Hotels rooms available like in Orlando Area? Food? Sun & fun is a great event, been to many when friend of mine had a plane. Getting into the parking lot was a nightmare. Last time I was in line for 1 hour. It is an airfield, period. I would have liked it closer to civilization though but that's just me.. GL with move.

Have you set the date yet! Looked on the wide world net, and it showed nothing yet.

Should be a good location. The only hassle is the line at the entrance as already spoken about.

It is a problem for the Sun N Fun but we do not anticipate 150,000 - 200,000 people.

Tyler

I don't remember any traffic jams in Kissimmee (Old Town) when I came years after year. I also remember three other locations they had the shows, with no traffic problems.

I'm going to like this change. It's a lot closer for me and I don't have to deal with Orlando traffic. I might even drive the '58 up.

Default Great Location

I've been going to Sun n Fun for years, will be a great location, and will not have nearly as many people so traffic will not be an issue.
