Default Cary, NC - NCM Director Speaking May 17

Just saw this press release:

National Corvette Museum Director Talks Cars in Cary at Annual Wheels on Academy

CARY, NC – The Town of Cary is preparing for all things cars to take over Academy Street on Saturday for its annual Wheels on Academy car show, May 17 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. In addition to cars on display, the National Corvette Museum’s Executive Director Wendell Strode will host a corvette presentation with a question and answer session at The Cary Theater at 11 a.m. The free event requires no advanced registration. Scattered throughout the event will be art car projects, Take-a-Part Model T demonstrations, and a Touch the Truck area featuring a variety of public and private sector vehicles to explore first-hand. Live music and concessions will be onsite to round out the event.

“It’s not too late to participate in Cary’s only downtown car show,” said Sarah Hagan, Downtown Program Specialist. Day-of registration runs from 7-9 a.m. and costs $15; individual car enthusiasts and car clubs alike are eligible to participate. All registered cars will be eligible for judging and trophies, including the Top 50 and the Mayor’s Award. Awards will be announced at 1:30 p.m. Last year’s Wheels on Academy drew roughly 2,500 people to the streets of downtown.

As a result of the event, drivers should be aware of temporary road closures in Downtown Cary on May 17. The Town will close S. Academy Street from Chatham Street to Dry Avenue as well as Park Street from S. Harrison Avenue to S. Walker Street. While inaccessible by vehicle, the Downtown Cary Library will remain open. The closures will be in effect from 6 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Free parking is available just two blocks away from the car show at the Cary Town Hall Parking Deck next to the Herbert C. Young Community Center, 101 Wilkinson Avenue. Handicapped parking will be available at Cary Town Hall beside the railroad tracks and at the Cary Elementary School entrance on Kildaire Farm Road.
