Update for Southeast/Georgia "Stars and Stripes"
People,
I'm sorry that I haven't been able to update this in a while. I'm still putting some things together and mostly, its been a "hurry up and wait" scenario.
I'm going to post everything that I have here:
First, I'm still looking for people to help with the flag relay. I'm gotten together with the FL and SC coordinator and have gotten the following:
There will be one Tour route going through Georgia. This leg starts in the Tampa area of Florida and will be coming up Rt 75 to Atlanta where it will them switch off to the Rt 85 North. The overnight stop for those folks will be Friday, June 28 at Mall of Georgia in Buford. I need people in South Georgia (at least one) who can take the handoff of the flag from the Florida people and bring it here.
I'm planning a cruise-in at the Mall of Georgia for Friday, June 28. Hopefully, we can get the flag and those people driving that leg up here in the early afternoon and assemble at the Mall. I've contacted mall management and am awaiting a response. I'm also contacting hotels that surround the mall for some room discounts/sponsorship, as well as local vendors and shops.
This leg will assemble between 5am and 6am on Saturday, June 29 to depart at 6am for the run to SC. We should get to the South Carolina border at approximately 10am where we will rendezvous at the SC Welcome Center for the Flag handoff. We will then join that group and follow their route and participate in any/all of their events (they have a lot of stops and events along the way to raise donations) or you can jet forward to one of the other stops to chill before the next day's events/driving.
Due to limited response and a shrinking time frame, I'm trying to arrange some local events BEFORE those dates above, like cruises to Hooters, Barnacles, etc. and am VERY OPEN to ANY and ALL ideas to help raise donations/interest/sponsors.
I've contacted every Corvette club that had an active email or website and wrote them letters asking for their participation and help. I've had limited response most likely because most clubs have events that same time period at the NCM.
I know a lot of people were interested and for various reasons cannot go all the way or only a short distance...please come with us and come to a local event. If anyone has any connections with a place that might be willing to sponsor a cruise in or make a donation, please let me know immediately.
I didn't want to ask any of the participants for donation money but perhaps a 10.00 donation to drive with the flag might be a simple way to raise some money. I'm OPEN TO ALL IDEAS and would REALLY appreciate the help.
Unfortunately, GA is somewhat far behind most of the other states as we didn't have a coordinator for a while and to be honest, my schedule is pretty jacked-up lately.
I've also contacted a local Chevy dealer who is willing to help out-of-towners on a priority basis should they need some service or repair during their time in the Atlanta area.
As soon as I get a response from Mall of Georgia (hopefully they will say yes), I will be able to have it promoted in the local papers and on all the forums here.
I could really use the help people and if you are interested in driving with us, any distance, please send me an email AND register on the site.
Its going to be a good tour and a great ride regardless, but I'd really like to have GA make a decent showing with donations and interest.
Thanks again and please, feel free to forward ideas and all offers of help are greatly appreciated!

Steve, Mike,
I GREATLY appreciate any and all you can give the Tour!
If anyone has any additional donation-raising ideas, I'm all ears also.

Yeah, let's stay in touch for sure. Steve, I may cruise down there with you. We could swap the flag out at different intervals. Plus, down there in south GA, we can really let that LT5 and LS1 rip!

I hear ya Mike, I would be proud to carry the American Flag thru Ga. for this tribute, as soon as I hear something I will drop you an E-mail. Moreover, to do it in America’s best sports car it would be something to remember. GOD BLESS AMERICA :flag :flag

Steve, Mike...
That would be great!! I'm contacting the FL Coordinator and will arrange the date/time with both of you and him, for the Flag handoff...
By the time you get up to the Atlanta area, I hope to have a cruise-in in full swing!
How are are each of you thinking of going? Are you stopping at Atlanta or interested in going further?

I'll hand the flag off at the cruise-in and hang out with everyone for a while. Then I'll head back home.

Tony, you mentioned that we would be departing from the mall of Ga. at 6am so that we arrive at the South Carolina welcome center by 10am? It's only a 2 hour cruise at the most.

Re: Update for Southeast/Georgia "Stars and Stripes"
I might be able to get RaceSmith to go with us in his '01 Z06. My wife has a '98 C5 too. She won't want to drive it by herself, but I might see if my parents would be interested. My In-Laws have an '02 C5, so they might be interested too! We might end up with a little mini-caravan thing coming through GA.

Re: Update for Southeast/Georgia "Stars and Stripes" (TestAmenTC5)
I actually live a few miles from Mall of GA, so I'd be happy to carry the flag, possibly help out with event, etc. Wife and I are currently discussing doing the run from GA all the way to NYC (have family near NY) for our 4th of July vacation, so this would be a perfect time for me to pick up the cruise.
