Default NC: Local tune (Raleigh or Wilmington) vs. hand-held tune

Hello fellow NCers. I have a 2008 base coupe with an A6 (2.56). I picked up a used SCT tuner off this forum for cheap in anticipation of getting a mail order tune from ECS. I haven't got the tune yet from ECS but I'm now considering getting a local tune instead. My concern with getting a local tune is the A6 tune won't be as good. ECS is one of the best tuners around and their A6 transmission tune is supposed to be badass. They themselves claim a gain of .2 in the 1/4 because of the transmission tune. If I had a M6 then I would most likely go local but A6 experience in a tune makes a world of difference on A6 cars.

Cost:

Hand-held tune $375 = 175 (price for used tuner) + 199 tune
National Speed dyno tune (Wilmington) $350 + plus I could sell the tuner.

It seems like this in my head......

Hand-held (ECS)

Pros
Can return to stock for warranty work
ECS transmission tune
hand-held can read codes

Cons
Tune not as optimized?
No whp numbers

Local tune

Pros
Dyno tune is supposed to be better
Maybe more power??
Having someone local do a tune that is accessible

Cons
Tranny tune may not be as good
Can't return to stock easily for warranty work

If National Speed does the initial tune they will return it to stock for free if you need to take your car in for warranty work. Give Jordan a call over there if you have any questions.

Google Jeff Creech..... He may do great work, but I would want to be around while it goes down. There is a horror story that really is unfortunate for him.

Did you ever get anything done? I just saw this thread. You live in Garner, NC??? Go to RPM over there!!!! Ryan is an awesome tuner, and you will not be disappointed in anything that you get done there. They built my engine last year, and I have been extremely pleased with everything, including the tuning.

Yes, I live in Garner . No, I haven't done anything yet. Do you know if Ryan at RPM has any A6 experience.

I went by National Speed in Wilmington last week and they seem like a class act.
