Officers on motorcycles to patrol Va interstates

Associated Press - November 10, 2009 8:15 AM ET

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Law enforcement officers on motorcycles will be out on interstates in southeast Virginia this week to crack down on speeding and other violations.

The Motor Enforcement, Accident Reduction effort, referred to as Project M.E.A.R., will include officers from Virginia State Police along with the Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth and Virginia Beach police departments. The Portsmouth Sheriff's Office also is participating.

Throughout the year, law-enforcement agencies work together on projects to increase enforcement on roads, track down people wanted on warrants and to identify criminal activity in undercover operations.

I drove thru there twice and saw many pullovers. And they would have one car pulled over with one bike and the other right behind them shooting radar. I was like...damn!!!

I've never seen people drive so slowly on that route.

They won't get me this weekend unless they are patrolling the friendly skies.

Yes. Everything is illegal in Virginia. You could fart and be arrested for it in Virginia.

They have been in my neck of the woods for years.........I-64 exit 247 down to I-664 at 5am too!
They blend in great in the dark jersey barriers
another reason I always like a blocker front & rear

In fact, what you wrote is illegal. A couple motorcycle cops are heading to your location now to write you a summons.

Thanks for the heads up. Detectors are also illegal in Ontario, Canada.
IIRC, the police can and do confiscate them in Ontario!

DO NOT SPEED in the last 60 miles or so going south on 95 before you get to the NC border. Emporia is a HUGE speed trap. My daughter got ticketed there while flowing with traffic. It's well known - Google Emporia, VA.

Don't let this stop you. Be sane, legal, courteous, compassionate of yourself and others and you'll be fine. SE VA has turned into one large ego-centroc ppopulation where self-centered types hyped on anger try running over everyone in "their " path. I have stopped riding mc's into work due to the aggressive driving here. It's anarchy. Course those who beleive this is normal would probably scream bloody murder if I drove at them like that with my car, bike, or assorted sungry of firearms. "Get out of the way of my bullets!" if that gives you an idea of what Tidewater drivers are like. I'm usually the slowest one out there whether on the bike, in the truck, or vette and I do try to keep up with traffic, but our foundation is trampled under. People have forgottem speed LIMIT is the foundation, not their own self-centered desires, whims, and impatience. I like a good drive as much as the next person, but driving THRU traffic instead of with it is what causes our traffic snarls. I watch people rush to get to the next congestion spot instead of picking a comfy, speed limit ok speed and enjoying the drive while not bothering others. Now if anyone wishes anarchy would rein, please give me a visit and within 2 minutes I guaaaaaraaaaannteeeeee you will change your mind of how much you like anarchy. Laws are good. Trust me.

I agree with you to a point. My only issue is the slow drivers in the left lane....Get over!! You’ve got the people that decide they want to do 55-57 in the left lane. To me, that causes more accidents than the speeders. You've got one idiot in the left lane holding everyone up causing congestion which causes people to step out to go around.
