A Washington man told Culpeper town police that his foot stuck on the accelerator and caused him to lose control of his 2007 Corvette and hit an electrical pedestal, tree and a house.
A witness, however, told police officers that he had heard "a loud and fast car" going by his house a number of times before the 8:30 p.m. crash on Woodruff Lane Saturday, police said.
Then, the man said, he heard a crash and people yelling. He said he looked outside and saw a man getting out of the wrecked Corvette.
Terry L. Whitfield, 43, was charged with reckless driving.
Damage to the town power pedestal was estimated at $2,000, while the Corvette sustained about $5,000 in damage. There was no estimate on damage to the house.
