Turkey Run is a can't miss event. We go every year. New owners at the Belair Plaza this year and they don't want any cruisers in their parking lot. Good luck in keeping them out.

That sucks. We take a car down every year to try and sell and we always take them to Belair plaza, thats a better place to sell a car than inside the show.I guess we will have to rethink our plans this year. Any word on any other cruise in locations at night?

Is this a reference to the plaza with Publix across the street from the beach ?
I hope not, as that's a really good show, and better for sale prices than at the speedway.

Bellair merchants stunned plaza owners barring car show
By JOHN BOZZO

DAYTONA BEACH -- A red-and-white sign warned hot-rod enthusiasts to keep their vehicles out of the Bellair Plaza.
A traditional informal Thanksgiving-week car show will not be allowed, and those who park for the event will be towed, the message stated.
"It's one of the dumbest damn things I've ever seen a landlord do," said Dave Lamotte, manager of the Salty Dog Surf Shop in the plaza. "It's going to hurt financially every business in that plaza. It's a big weekend. Was a big weekend."
By 4 p.m. Thursday the sign was down, but Lamotte said the event was still barred. Discussions with the plaza's representatives broke down over a demand for $5,000 from the businesses to manage the event.
Calls to representatives of the shopping center owner were not returned.
City Manager Jim Chisholm is trying to work out a compromise to keep the informal show after complaints from business people, including the owner of two restaurants not in the plaza on Atlantic Avenue.
Officially, the Turkey Run Car Show and Swap Meet was last held at Bellair Plaza in 1986.
Unofficially, the vintage cars and admiring crowds return every year, even though the Turkey Run has made its home at Daytona International Speedway since 1989.
Because Bellair is no longer an official event, there are no fees to get in or to show a car.
Salty Dog Surf Shop traditionally rings up its second-busiest week of the year, behind July 4, thanks to people who stop by to see the cars, Lamotte said. His store accepted delivery of 45 dozen t-shirts with a special design for the car show shortly before the plaza owners decided to bar the unofficial event.
"We offered to pay for extra security, Port-O-Lets, traffic control and all that," Lamotte said. "That went nowhere."
His $325 check to the city was returned.
"We'll have an officer or two up there this year, like we always do," Police Chief Mike Chitwood said. "It's a good crowd. No problems whatsoever."
Bellair Plaza owners have balked at being the unofficial site of a car show in the past. In 2000, the cars stayed after an agreement that vehicles would not be parked overnight. Four vintage vehicles were towed in 2003.
"People have been coming down for years parking their cars at the plaza," said Larry Coltelli, chief executive officer of Accumen Sales and Marketing Group, which owns the Grand Seas Resort across Atlantic Avenue from the shopping center. His company also owns Club Navigo in the plaza.
"I don't understand it, quite frankly," he said. "It's going to hurt my business, as well as other businesses, up and down the street."
So, I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.
That sucks. We were planning on taking two cars down but if something doesn't change with this we probably won't take anything down. It's too much hassle to try and get something into the track. If anyone has any more info on this please post it.
A friend that live there just told me that Bel Air plaza has removed the no parking signs. He also reminded me that Main st. will be shut down Saturday night for a street rod show. They have had the street show for the last few years, it's nice.So have no fear we are ready to go for another year. It seems like every year they threaten to shut down Bel Air but it hasn't happened yet.Don't forget the gas light parade Friday night at 7 p.m. on Grenada Blvd. It is a great parade.I hope everyone has a safe trip and a great time...
Just read this on the turkey rod run webstie.
We have been advised that the owners of Belair Plaza at 2500 N. Atlantic Avenue will allow parking
for plaza customers only in their lots during this year's Turkey Run weekend.
No organized activites will be allowed, and no vehicles can remain parked overnight.
The situation at Belair Plaza has deteriorated in recent years. There are no longer any organized
Turkey Run activities there, and no responsible party to pay the bill for increased security.
Problems will happen when hundreds of cars show up for an evening of Cruising and Burn-Outs.
In recent years, the Belair Plaza parking lot has been filled to gridlock, denying access
to plaza customers and emergency vehicles. The merchants in Belair Plaza certainly welcome
the business that the Turkey Run brings to Daytona Beach. The owner's of the Plaza however,
prefer that their property not be used for any organized events or as a venue
for sale of vehicles during the busy Thanksgiving weekend.
Please be aware of this situation. If you must go to that area to cruise, please be aware of where you park!
So...if I was to drive my C5 with my 9-year old son on either Saturday or Sunday just for the day...where would I park...?
The website FAQ doesn't really address parking for non-particpants.
I'm all
Turn in the main entrance of the speeway by the Daytona USA sign. Go to the right and there is plenty of spectator parking but you'll wanna get there pretty early because the entrance is straight ahead of the Daytona USA sign and you will have to walk back to there and parking tends to fill up pretty quick. There are other pay parking lots but they are more of a walk and the main parking lot is free.

Cool. For the weekend, is one day better than the other. Sat vs Sun...?
Don't take what you read on the turkey run web site for gospel. There are 2 differant clubs there that do not get along. The ones that are at the race track have been saying for years that there is nothing going on or allowed at bel air plaza. We all know that was bull. they don't want you to go there at night, they want you at the track. I am willing to bet that bel air plaza is alive and well this year..How are you going to tell someone going to TGI Fridays or publix or Bealls that you can't park in the parking lot? It would be very hard to enforce.I am going to the plaza, the parade and main street as well as the track, the clubs can feud all they want!
Yeah it should be interesting. I am going to call the Salty Dog surf shop tomorrow and see what they say about is since they were pro-parking. It's just a hard decision for us about bringing a car because we don't wanna deal with getting in and out of the track plus I hear car corral spots are hard to get this late. I don't wanna haul something five hundred miles for nothing.
And to the earlier question Saturday is the better day for sure. Most people leave out on sunday around lunch.
I went by the Belair Plaza today and the muscle cars, hot rods, etc. were there, just like in the pass. Even had guys in yellow 'EVENT' t-shirts keeping order. They were telling me that, now, if any car is there after 11pm, then they will be towed. So one of the stores in the plaza will be asking their employees to work extra so they can be open 24 hours, this doing away with the 11pm curfew.
I talked to my friend in Ormond Beach and he said the same thing. Everything is a go as usual..The track group always trys to start rumors about the Bel Air event, so you have to beware!

I don't understand why the track group would care if people go to the Bellair event or not. It is mostly an evening event, and takes place after the speedway closes.
Also, it's not like it's a huge event. Parking is very limited, and pales in comparison to the Turkey Run.
I really enjoy the Bellair show, as there are cars there that were not at the speedway.
I hope the show will go on.
