Default Blue Ridge Parkway -how to:

Will be coming up from Hilton Head, SC - will want to end up at Southern most end of the Parkway. Should I go up 77 and jump over to it or get on it sooner and head North and then turn around and head back South?

If you go up 77 you'll hit the BRP at Fancy Gap Va, this is very far from the southern begining. The south end is south of Asheville. to get there go through Charlotte, hit 74 west through Shelby to 26 to 40. That takes you to Asheville, 74 west off 40 takes you further west but you'll back track that part once you get on the BRP. Since you'll be in the area go down and ride Deals Gap, the famed tail of the Dragon and then get on the BRP near Cheroke and head north. If you are anywhere within 100 miles of the Gap you should make a detour to run it....

Just looked at a map, go to 26 to 85 south to 28 go north through Clemson, Highlands, Franklin, to the Gap, run the Gap (a couple of times) if you still want to ride the BRP go out 28 past Fontana Dam to 74 east and hit the BRP near Waynesville. Oh, and when you get to southern VA theres a good road there too, I think it's 58. Oh and at Little Switzerland take a run up and down 226... Are you setting a week aside to do this?

While on the BRP remember the speed limit is 45 and the ticket is federal and they do watch for vettes, and motorcycles.... To be honest the BRP has great stops, views, and overlooks, but the speed limit gets to me very quickly, I get bored.

Irish Whisky,
The wife and I run the parkway every fall. We have found that the color is MUCH more vibrant if you can run the parkway in a Northerly direction due to the fact that the sun, basically, at your back. We've tried it the other way and there is a significant difference.

We ran it yesterday, Saturday, in the Z06. We started in Roanoke and ran it North up to Sperryville, VA.

No matter where you start and finish you'll still enjoy it!
