Default Wythe County VA...Anyone get a ticket?

Got tagged for speeding in an obvious speed trap. Just wondering if anyone has been caught and defended successfully.

I sped up a hill to get around a tractor trailer and as I came down the hill, I was at 80 and was tagged.

I could not even pull over for a mile or so as I had to finish getting around the tractor trailer

Default Speeding on 81

I got caught in the same area a few years ago. Unless you have a bad record,it isn't worth your time to fight it. I was told that if you have to go over the speed limit to pass someone, you shouldn't pass. AAA has this area highlighted as speed strictly enforced. It doesn't qualify as a speed trap. Similar to Emporia. 2thdr

YUP, I go through there all the time when I take my Wife to see her family. That area is a bad one. When I lived there outside of Roanoke, on Smith Mtn Lake, I've seen Dodge mini vans, S-10 Blazers, 2dr Buick LeSabers, as patrol cars giving tickets through that area in Wythe CO.

The Wythe County Sheriff Dept is paid by the Fed Gov to patrol the I-81/I-77 along with the State Police. Their chief if always bragging how much equiptment they buy from the tickets they hand out. That is also District Headquarters for the State Police . The county also uses motorcyles on the Interstate to patrol. If your caught over 70 on radar you are going to pay. I used to be manager over that district for the phone company and they will give anyone a ticket. It is not a speed trap until you go over the speed limit.

United Inter Mountian Telephone and the State Police used to be customers of mine when I worked on puters over that way. I bet we ran into one another sometime in the past at the phone co.

I go through there 5 days a week on I81, they always sit at the 66 mile marker on the north bound side and at the 70 on the south bound side. Big money makers, the state and county police fight over the hiding spots. Be safe out there.

Tv7son - Roger or Sonny was the BSM there at that time. Did you know Butch?

Dan84 - If everyone who got a ticket at the 66 mile marker and received a 1" square of the rock they hide behind it would be gone and a there would be a 50 foot hole in the ground.

man4chevy, I really can't remember any names at all. I used to park in that cage in the back and go into the back door. And also up those metal stairs in the side door on the next building. They all knew me and would kid me all the time. They were a good bunch of people.

You can run North and south at the same time there.
If you look at the signs: 81 north and 77 South run together
and 81 south and 77 North run together
